The obsession with Broja

Hes a striker, and we’re desperate.

It’s like being out in a night out, striking out all night and then pulling the rotted in the corner because it’s better than nothing.
What's good is that you've gone for an analogy that is easily understandable for the thread author. The inclusion of warm barnyard animals would have really made it crystal clear.

I just dont see what people see in Broja myself, other than the obvious which is he is better than Rondon, but Broja is not a player i would go for, if he comes and it goes well then off course i will be wrong

Agreed with the original post.

The uproar when we were linked with Che Adams compared to Broja just shows how fickle the fan base can be when all the stats prove the Adams is the better striker.

And the idea of getting this lad on loan too? Bizarre.
They are completely different types of player.

Can someone explain to me the forums obsession with Armando Broja?

His name is mentioned over and over again and he's talked about as this great hope that will solve all of our striker woes, but what has he done to warrant all of this? He scored a handful of goals for Southampton last season and has done nothing of note for Chelsea, so why all the hype?

It feels a bit like he's been setup for a massive fall before he's even signed, or a massive fume and a stick to beat the board/manager with when he doesn't sign, why are we so obsessed with what appears to just be another bog standard Chelsea youth cast off? He was also born in Slough so isn't the fancy import that I suspect a lot of people bizarrely think lends weight to him being a superstar.

I thought it was worth a separate discussion rather than clogging up his transfer thread, someone educate me and convince me you've not just been duped by a fancy name.
I'm a big fan of your work mate but how is a discussion on the merits of signing this lad not suitable for a transfer thread dedicated to Mr Broja?

I agree injured a lot

I had a season ticket at St Mary's last season, only missed a couple of games.

Broja was brought in as an alternative/backup to the established strikers there but from his first touch as a sub looked far more dangerous and direct.

He has pace, can run with the ball, turns well, is selfish, sulks when asked to play wide, can press, great shot on him, fell out with the manager (cue more sulks), holds the ball up well, good passer (when he bothers).

I think other clubs also found him out a bit, big difference from being a unknown youth at the season's start to being seen as the main threat at the end. He was well marked towards the end of last season, didn't prosper.

You're paying as much for potential (a bit like Gordon) though with the right service he will get well into double figures this season.

Comparisons with a young Shearer are silly. Plus Shearer scored 18 goals at Saints in the season before his Blackburn transfer.

I didn't want to spark an influx of posts in a transfer thread and get the hopes up of those excitable types that thought something big had happened.
