The very fact evertonians were able to retain a scrap of lofty ambitions in the post 2000 era is purely because of the work Moyes did here. We had frozen training pitches when he arrived and a sentimental fool of an owner who was operating a sell to buy transfer policy whilst he mortgaged the club to the hilt.

Every other non top 6 club went down at some point in that period yet Everton went from perennial relegation battlers to regular European qualifiers with some of the best players we’ve seen in the prem era playing for us at that time.

Can you imagine if Martinez had taken over in 2002, good lord we’d have probably been liquidated by now. Yet some fans go on about how he didn’t win a cup final vs the best team in Europe at the time or some comments he made when he went to United.

He did a brilliant job when he was here first time, and he repeated it at West Ham.
Just refresh my memory mate, what happened between here and West Ham again?

Some of our fans are nuts. This is the most sensible appointment we could make. We have to stay in the PL this season. Our fans just never learn, always wanting the big shiny names, then moan when it doesn’t work out. If this deal is 6 months then it’s perfect.
So literally any appointment other than Moyes would mean certain relegation? Or, indeed, Moyes is guaranteed to save us?

Many, many teams threatened with relegation over the years have survived and thrived without appointing Moyes specifically, or any manager that outgrew the club and/or vice versa over 10 years ago.

Indeed and one of them who sought his divine assistance ended up getting relegated .

If it’s short term I’d take Moyes but once I saw his name gathering attention last night a lot of the excitement and buzz from the manager leaving began to evaporate so he wouldn’t be my choice .

Moyes coming in feels like such an Everton move , meet the new owners same as the old .

Come on own up

If rumours of Carsley coming in as assistant are true that would make it a lot more palatable for me
Why would he though ? I just can’t imagine why he’d turn down a managers job in the championship and say he’d take a number two role a month later , from a career point of view even basic financial it makes no sense to me .

Terrible appointment, which is based on work that he did at the club 12+ years ago.

I'm shocked at how many people believe its a sensible appointment "because he'll keep us up" What guarantee is there that he over any other manager will keep us up. None.

Far too divisible for a fan base that needs stability as much as the club does. Lose to Villa and Spurs and the mood for Moyes will be little different from the last 3 months.

Having slept on it.

Factoring in our situation of being 16th, and 1-3 points clear of Leicester, Ipswich and Wolves with a game in hand.

Considering the potential PSR headache.

Knowing we can't even go an take the likes of Brentford's manager these days.

Knowing even out of contract managers like Terzić, Mancini, Carsley and even the likes of Southgate wouldn't fancy this squad without some serious recruitment.

Knowing the shortlist isn't going to be appealing because we couldn't get to the summer when it would be.

I'm still desperately disappointed it will be David Moyes.

A lot of fans have spent the season saying this team is a lot better than where it is, so if that's the case, a new manager only has to just not go backwards. Factor in new owners now, a manager that isn't on his way to the gallows and a couple of signings and surely we can do better.

People making out like Moyes is a safe pair of hands, when he joined West Ham in November 2017, he drawn an lost more than he won and West Ham couldn't see the back of him quick enough and he left that summer. When he rejoined them in December 2019, "West Ham finished in 16th place in the Premier League with 39 points, their lowest points tally since 2010–11 when they gained 33 points and finished bottom. Moyes' 19 games in charge produced 20 points, one more than the previous 19 games managed by Manuel Pellegrini" - and Covid saved their arse that season.

He had much a better team win 4 of his last 19 at West Ham, an finish just 4 points above us last season.

It's not inspiring but it's understandable, and the reason we are having to look at someone like Moyes now is because of how terrible Dyche has been this season and how terrible our previous owners were. I think the plan was always to try and take Dyche to the end of the season but his poor performance and self admission that he'd taken the team as far as he could made his position untenable. Due to the overlap in ownership, the finance stuff means we are still stuck between a rock and a hard place so someone like Moyes, at this moment in time, is one of the only possible solutions. If it were the summer I can imagine that Moyes would enter as an option, but not one of the top / main target which he currently is. It's not exciting, it's not inspiring BUT with all cards laid out on the table, it makes sense why TFG are taking it.
