I don't know mate. Just speculating but maybe he would prefer to be a no.2 somewhere to get a feel for club management before taking a top job somewhere
I wasn’t calling you out mate just my response to the story . I can see it doing the rounds but it makes zero sense to me , the fella has managed his country and linked to jobs I don’t see how his career path benefits in any way from being an assistant to Moyes .

He also had a 44% win ratio with West Ham the 2nd time round, which has been better than every manager since Ancelotti (who he finished higher than). West Ham also had the highest points they’ve had in a PL season under Moyes.

There’s no point in a debate over this because you’ve well and truly confirmed your opinion & you won’t budge but if you’re going to bring up his West Ham record I think it’s only fair you do the good bits aswell as where he struggled

The debate was around perceptions of him being a safe pair of hands just to get us until the end of the season.

To do that, it's sensible to look when he twice joined a Premier League club, midway through the season that was looking over their shoulder at relegation.

Twice then, when he's joined West Ham in the same position - he didn't actually improved them that same season.

If we were considering him in the summer and you want to give him a lot of money and 4/5 years, then yeah, talk up his long term record. But if anyone on here thinks David Moyes and about half a billion spend for 4-5 years then I will very much disagree with you.

Having slept on it.

Factoring in our situation of being 16th, and 1-3 points clear of Leicester, Ipswich and Wolves with a game in hand.

Considering the potential PSR headache.

Knowing we can't even go an take the likes of Brentford's manager these days.

Knowing even out of contract managers like Terzić, Mancini, Carsley and even the likes of Southgate wouldn't fancy this squad without some serious recruitment.

Knowing the shortlist isn't going to be appealing because we couldn't get to the summer when it would be.

I'm still desperately disappointed it will be David Moyes.

A lot of fans have spent the season saying this team is a lot better than where it is, so if that's the case, a new manager only has to just not go backwards. Factor in new owners now, a manager that isn't on his way to the gallows and a couple of signings and surely we can do better.

People making out like Moyes is a safe pair of hands, when he joined West Ham in November 2017, he drawn an lost more than he won and West Ham couldn't see the back of him quick enough and he left that summer. When he rejoined them in December 2019, "West Ham finished in 16th place in the Premier League with 39 points, their lowest points tally since 2010–11 when they gained 33 points and finished bottom. Moyes' 19 games in charge produced 20 points, one more than the previous 19 games managed by Manuel Pellegrini" - and Covid saved their arse that season.

He had much a better team win 4 of his last 19 at West Ham, an finish just 4 points above us last season.
Out of interest if you are ruling out the above named managers .
Who should we have got?

Did one yesterday.

I think it's important what we mean by a long term deal. If he accepted a contract until the end of next season, I'd be fine with that. If it was like a 4 year deal then I would be pretty unhappy with that. I don't really think we should ever be offering contract of longer than 2 -3 years for any manager moving forward. Too much can change in 2 seasons.

I don't expect any manager to accept a 5 month contract to June. I think equally we aren't in position to get who we want, so we have to make the best of a tricky situation.

I suppose I can live with Moyes on a short term deal but that has to be it, no long term nonsense that would be just more can kicking imo. It would be really interesting to know who TFG long term target is, is it someone that is actually worth waiting around for.

We simply don't know either way. The facts of the matter are Dyche had checked out and we were going in one direction and TFG rightly took action. Of course they will be judged on us surviving but my view is in the here and now, we have a better chance of that with Moyes. Therefore, based on what we know, it seems a sensible move.

You don't like David Moyes much do you mate? About as balanced as a Beto one-on-one.

I can confirm I do not, but I think I can explain why pretty well.

I'd be hypocrite if I started talking him up because we're linked with him.

But I think I can explain why I don't think he's the right choice pretty well.

But like with Dyche and Allardyce, I'll support him if he gets the job but will be couting down until he's sacked. I'd hoped we he would get to May/June an hire a top manager who'd progress us. Hiring Moyes now, and the likehlihood of him remaining after May/June is a kick in the balls on that hope.

A long term deal to me is beyond this season, because we have a massive rebuild job this summer.

The point of that poll really was are we happy for him to take us into the new stadium. There's plenty asking if fans want him as manager, generally.

@Exeter_Gently

I know you love a bit of Dan so;

''Moyes 6 month deal, Friedkins wants Ashworth as DOF, Ashworth wants Southgate as he did at United which the Friedkins are happy with...

the above from same source who told me yesterday about 2 hours before the news broke''

This guy I do somewhat trust, hope he is wrong, Southgate would be the single most uninspiring thing I could think of going into the new stadium.

If that's true, I'm going to boo him before he's even been announced. Southgate as Everton manager might finally tip me over the edge

you have an agenda at work, you are entitled to have one, but you seem to be intent on dragging up every possible negative angle over the appointment.

All the while advocating nonsense like Mourinho as a realistic replacement.

He then dramatically improved them the season after.

This football side aren’t very good so no manager is going to come in and dramatically improve them this season, we’re still in the position where we just can’t get relegated.

We were sleepwalking towards relegation under Dyche & any semi competent manager does enough to win a few games with this lot & keep us up.
