That last year, wigan won 11 games, diame started 3 of them.

He played when they were awful and was on the bench at the end of the season when they actually played well. It was dropping diame and rodalegga that kept them up.

2011/12 Diame started 18 in the league and he came on a further 8 times, scoring 3 times.
2010/11 He started 30 and came on a further 6 times.
2009/10 He started 34.

It looks like he could have picked up an injury away at Stoke on New Year's Eve 2010, as he was a regular starter up until that point. Wigan won 7 out of their last 9 games to stay up.

If he was directly related to their shocking run of form why did he make is last start in December and they only won one match before 24th March?

F*cking hell. Diame better than Barry? Of course someone who played 26/38 games for a Wigan side that nearly got relegated is better than someone who regularly played more for the league champions and has 53 England caps.

I agree, he may be slowing down, but that is expected, the experience in top class football compared to Diame is incomparable.

Of those last 9, diame was on the bench for most of them, therefore available, and didn't start.

Martinez found his best team and diame wasn't in it.

So if you'd put Diame in the City side instead of Barry they wouldn't still have romped the league? Phil Neville has 59 England caps and we know what a world-beater he was.

1) City didn't romp the league in any way whatsoever. They won by a point on the last day.

2) Phil Neville was a good utility player in his day, even for us. The fact he was absolutely horrendous in his last season or two is irrelevant. He wasn't getting caps then.

Martinez had to go for broke and went without a half-fit defensive midfielder.

"Momo is a very important player for us and we're looking to build something special over the next few seasons and Momo is a big part of that plan" - Martinez

"He is a player who has the potential to really grace the Premier League. We are really excited to have him here at our club".

Martinez said: "It's rare to find someone with power, true quality and composure on the ball - Patrick Vieira had that.

"Playing in Spain allowed Momo to be a little bit different and when he fully understands the nature of the British game he will be a special player in the Premier League.

"He's only 22 and he's still adapting to the British game but he's someone who can go as high as he wants to go."

1) City had Tevez, Aguero, Yaya, Silva etc. How much influence do you think that Barry really had on them winning the league? Teams were scared to attack City so, as a defensive midfielder, with Kompany and Hart behind him he had it pretty easy.

2) On the world stage players like Barry and Neville are pretty ordinary, even if they do represent their country a number of times. Diame could potentially be more dynamic than both of them.
