The summer 2013 Everton transfer rumourZ thread

1) City had Tevez, Aguero, Yaya, Silva etc. How much influence do you think that Barry really had on them winning the league? Teams were scared to attack City so, as a defensive midfielder, with Kompany and Hart behind him he had it pretty easy.

2) On the world stage players like Barry and Neville are pretty ordinary, even if they do represent their country a number of times. Diame could potentially be more dynamic than both of them.

1) When did I say Barry had an influence on the league? Either way of course he did, as does every player who starts for a title winning side. Football isn't all about flicks, dribbling or power, and he kept City ticking nicely. He's nothing special and they could buy many, many better players than him but he's far above Diame's level.

2) I agree, which is why Diame's played just 15 times for Senegal.

People who think he's better than he actually is.

Ok, so that would be the definition of over-rated then. Thanks for that.

He's actually under-rated, the same as Lucas.

Before he left Wigan he won the most tackles in the league and it turns out he only played half a season!

Last year he ranked fifth behind Schneiderlein, Zabaleta, Sidwell and Noble. He made 76 tackles in 18 appearances compared to 99 in 24 for the leader. No Everton players made the list.

You're welcome, I try to help people out when I can.

Maybe he won the most tackles because his poor positioning meant he had to, or his awful first touch meant he had to win the ball he'd just lost back. Stats aren't the be all and end all, otherwise they'd have you believing Steve Sidwell's a better tackler than any Everton player. Oh hang on, they have.

1) City didn't romp the league in any way whatsoever. They won by a point on the last day.

2) Phil Neville was a good utility player in his day, even for us. The fact he was absolutely horrendous in his last season or two is irrelevant. He wasn't getting caps then.

They still got 89 points. The record tally of points in Premiership history over the course of a season is 95. That's 2 wins away from the record. It's not City's fault United got 89 too.

1) How do you know that Barry wasn't a passenger? How many tackles, assists, passes, crosses etc did he make? They couldn't replace Hughes' side wholesale, so they had to make priorities.

2) Barry has had 7 years head start on Diame and England are more likely to get to World Cup finals than Senegal. He made his debut in 2011 and he has 15 caps, making 7.5 per season. If he carries on at that rate he will have 67 caps by the time he's 33.

Tevez ****ed off to play golf for most of the season, saying that Balotelli and Dzeko's not bad to be fair.

Really????

Wigan spent the majority of the each match on their heels giving Daime more opportunities to tackle no matter if it was a controlled or last resort tackle. City rarely were on the defensive that season and when they were on defense he most likely had a lot of faith in his positioning as well as his teammates so it was less necessary to tackle then to play his position and essentially cut off or intercept the next pass.

I'm with you on this. The best players don't have to tackle because their positioning is spot on.

I'm always suspicious of your carragher types who chase back ten yards and throw a last ditch tackle in.

Anybody have any thoughts on Ignacio Camacho from Malaga - if Felli were to leave? Quality holding midfielder who breaks up play really well, has a good engine and a good range of (forward) passing. Obviously i'd rather have Felli, but if he leaves i'd rather have Camacho for approx. £6 or 7 mil than buy McCarthy for £10 or 12 mil.

That last year, wigan won 11 games, diame started 3 of them.

He played when they were awful and was on the bench at the end of the season when they actually played well. It was dropping diame and rodalegga that kept them up.

Diame played in 12 out of 13 of West Ham's wins last season, including the goal that gave them the edge against Chelsea.
