The summer 2013 Everton transfer rumourZ thread

I can't wait for Martinez's first day at training. When he sees the quality of the likes of Baines, Fellaini and Mirallas, and then wonders why on earth he was ever considering signing Kone and Alcaraz

And Moyes acknowledged that was a bad business deal and not the type of deal he normally does. And it looks a poor deal 12 months on as he looks a shadow of the player of old.

He's still one of the most talented players in our squad. He improves our football, helps Baines and he's come in for way more stick last season than he deserved. Very good player that we're fortunate to have.

Tree13 been gone a while....maybe he's not finished reading those accounts yet!

Or, Maybe he's realised he's been talking drivel for page after page and is giving us a break.

*fingers crossed*

Very thoughtful of you to get up at 5 in the morning just to post about me, your concern is duly noted :)

Reading accounts is not a quick, two-hour job for me. Kudos to you if you are faster at this than I am. I'll get back to you when I finish.

I must admit that when I got to the bit about us having over £20m of debt due for repayment this year I began worrying I was misreading them and started again, so that set me back a bit. Presumably we'll just re-finance that debt with a new loan, but I can also see Kenwright thinking "I can pay that off now" and it's not a bad idea. He could borrow more in January if necessary, and that coincides with giving Jelavic until January to rediscover some form. I appreciate that this is a muddy, halfway position between what you were saying and what I was saying.

In other news, I still think £5m for Kone is a little pointless, given that he's not better than Jelavic. We only play one up front and Jelavic can't play at any other position, so spending that much to improve the quality of the subs available to us seems weird to me, unless we have a sale lined up for Victor at about £5m. By all means get a better player than Jelavic in, if you can find one for under £14m, but £5m for Kone? Nein danke. It's not enough cash to make an impact at that position, but it's too much for an aging squad player. £2m or £3m would be a different matter; but for £5m I would be looking at Finnbogason instead.

Alcaraz on a free makes sense IF we can shift Heitinga; likely to save us some money on wages as well as bringing in a fee.

McGeady for £4m I can sort of understand - we have NO-ONE who can play on the right apart from Mirallas. A signing here gives us a little depth and flexibility. Admittedly I'd prefer Belhanda, but he will cost more than twice as much.

He needs to be moved inside now I think

I agree 6,5 mil would be too much but the fact is Kone is a that much sought after commodity; a striker who can score more than 10 goals in the premiership.

As for his age, I consider him a stop gap rather than a long term prospect. What we need desperately at the moment is to be able to stick someone up top who we know will score a goal every 3-4 games.

At the moment we have no such players since Jelavic has failed and Anichebe is inconsistent and liable for long term injury. If we get 30 premiership goals out of Kone during his Everton career I´d be happy with that.

This dislike of the Kone signing can only stem from the fact he's 29 and not 25 surely? This guy was really good last season. He is better than Anichebe and Jelavic, he will offer another dimension to the side, a dimension that's needed- the ability to stretch teams with his pace, the ability to dribble, the ability to hold the ball up and the ability to finish. If we only have 2 years then so be it, it will be worth potentially another 9 points for those 2 seasons and that could make a big difference. We don't have £20m to spend on Benteke or Negredo.

Mis-passes and tumbles over. Likely Moyes fault but he also stopped our counter attacking play and let the opposition regroup.
His linkup play with Baines wasn't really that good either. A few times he made a nice little flick to Baines and it worked, a lot of times it didn't. He's a tired old man really, he retired from international football for a good reason.

How in the name of god do you know that at this stage?

I assume you mean because he's losing pace? Firstly I disagree with that and secondly neither he nor Baines need lightning pace the way they play. They thread little balls through defences to each other to let the ball do the work before crossing it in. I sit where I do in the Gwladys partly because I love watching it up close ffs. It is brilliant to watch and I'm made up we've got a bit of that in our side. These two can go on for some time yet. They're my two first names on the team sheet.

Im with you on this one, dont understand all of the Pienaar hate going on. In fact i dont understand a lot of the negativity around at the minute. There were spells last season when he was poor and gave the ball away far too often but hes still a class act and i think we'll get a few more years out of him. Would like to see him as part of a midfield 3 like this

Mirallas Jelavic McManaman

Pienaar Felli
Gibbo

I thought he was on fire around the time we played Chelsea at home. He was everywhere that day. Brilliant player. I think he comes in for stick because of his background and history and the fact we rarely hear him speak. Other than that I can't think of why people seem to jump on him a tad quicker than others. He puts in as much of a shift as Coleman and the rest of them. Proper Everton player imo. Quality and committed.
