The summer 2013 Everton transfer rumourZ thread

I think we might try and sign Kone but we won't pay 6 million.
He might have a release clause but players have so much power these days that it is pointless having an unhappy player at any club, and a compromise is usually agreed between the clubs in question.

I expect if we sign him it will be for around 3-4 million.

Untill we see otherwise, we are working under sizeable financial constraints. 2m for Redmond is a no brainer for me, he's young, good and getting better. McGeady isn't a transfer I want at all but I can see an argument for Kone. They would add competitiveness to our squad. I'd love it if we could sign up 3 £10m players without losing anybody, but I just don't think it's all that likely. We are the club we are at the moment.

I get the need for competitiveness, I do. Is Conor McAleny, Chris Long and Vellios so bad that we need to spend a lot of money on an average striker, just for competition? Not a fan of this deal at all. It's a Liverpool transfer, player has a decent season, they sign him for more than he's worth.

Redmond's fee is low and he is young, that's more understandable. I still don't think he will get anywhere near the starting line up in his first season, he struggled last year for Birmingham.

Typical Everton thing, players like Honda and Belhanda available yet we sign ****e.

No but the fallout from it was great. People flipped out over it. That Dutch bloke must have pissed himself.

My emotions were so up and down about that transfer. I was devastated when i heard he'd 'failed his medical', honestly think the knock on effect of not bringing in him or negredo (or anyone in january for that matter) had an effect on us finishing 4th

We haven't signed anybody yet mate. The Honda situation has yet come to a conclusion. On our own strikers, I think Long is a way off first team. Vellios had attitude problems that Moyes didn't love, but Martinez could see something in him, I dunno. Mcaleny interests me, we don't hear much of him really but he's a player I'd like to see in our preseason a lot more. He offers something different. Kone is a better player than what we have available, I think and we were desperately short of somebody to finish off the good work we'd do around the box. It could work but I understand reservations people would have.

Well if you look at previous windows, new faces in have coincided with pretty good runs of form. We weren't bad in the second half of the season but we faded a fair bit. A big shiny new signing of such quality could easily have reversed our fortunes as we surged towards the coveted 3rd place trophy.

If we could get McGeady as well as Redmond then sound. While I'm not to keen on McGeady at least we'd have a younger, more exciting prospect in Redmond to bring off the bench when legs are getting tired.

Redmond for 1-2m cannot possibly go wrong. He's a good prospect and while he may not be a player who can start now, he's fairly quick, so he can be brought on purely to bomb down the wing if necessary. He's also still quite young, so even if it goes massively tits up, we can probably sell him for 3-4m because we "developed" him.

Kone would be a very average signing that screams midtable. People who are saying he has had one good season don't know what they're talking about; he's a pretty consistent goalscorer wherever he goes. I personally feel that the 5 or 6m that's being banded around for a 30 year old striker who isn't going to exactly light the world on fire is too much, but I trust Martinez. Surely he is the man that knows Arouna Kone the best, and knows his talents and can fulfill this.

McGeady for 4m? What a crock of ****e. No end ball what so ever; McGeady is that kid on the yard who can do all these lovely skills but then can't shoot for **** and won't pass. He'd be a very average player that screams midtable. There are better available for the price.

However, the phrase "better available for the price" seems to apply to a lot of things we do. Everton tend to miss the boss signings to sign players that we always don't like because there's someone shinier over in Holland or some other where. However, the players we do sign usually turn out pretty well anyways. I'm sure I'm not the only one who was outraged when we signed a 30+ year old Sylvain Distin from a Portsmouth to replace Lescott. Distin's probably now one of my favourite players.

I reckon Fellaini needs to be sold for 20m+. Replace him with Diame from West Ham who has a £3m release clause, or replace him with Leroy Fer who clearly wants to play for Everton, and then use the rest of the money from that transfer to buy a boss player, along the lines of Honda or Belhanda. Keep Baines at all costs as he is our best player by far and has been for a long time.

The big thing for Martinez to do really is to get Jelavic firing again. I don't think alone amongst most Evertonians in saying that we love to see that lovely old Croat smile. If Martinez can get Jelavic smiling again, he can definitely get us Evertonians smiling. In Bobby Martin we Trust.

Marin has been in reverse for a few years now thanks to injuries. Werder Bremen fans were actually laughing when Chelsea came in for him, they couldn't understand the logic in it.
