The summer 2013 Everton transfer rumourZ thread

I'm another in the McCarthy fan club. He has a bit of everything and will develop in to one of the best midfielders in the League given time.

Of all the Wigan players we were linked with, he was the only one I desperately wanted to see us go for.

Not likely now I'd have thought unless Fellaini is sold, and I honestly can't see anyone coming up with the money for him.

Bags of energy, always on the move. If Martinez is in pole position to land him I'd say we should be grateful for that.

Mccarthy? Why are people happy to be signing all wigan players yet say we wont do bad as we have better players than Wigan??

I think it'd generally be accepted that if we cherry picked three or four of another PL team's best players (albeit one that went down) and added them to what we have, then it's a good move. Obviously that'll depend on how this window works out, but for the time being....

You need to look at the facts before spouting such drivel. Just look at the influence of Alcaraz at Wigan over the last 3 years and the career Kone has had at other clubs.

It's really boring that you berate these sort of signings without doing some homework.

And you sir, bring a whole level of cluelessness.

The affect of alcaraz in a wigan team, maldini-esque was it? Brilliant signing him, and to top it off a huge attitude problem personificated by him spitting at people.

Kone's career has been average at best. Before knocking others football knowledge i suggest you do your homework.

As for the amounts of the transfer fees people are not factoring in agent fees not signing bonuses. Which would mean AT LEAST 8mil and more likely 10mil.

Robles and Gerard i can understand, the other two are average at best.

Not even £8m mate! £5m for Kone, £1m for Robles. loan and a free. A loan which I cant see having any fee for. Think Martinez has done very well. Ignore Zatara, he's a new level of low for an Evertonian. I'm generally quite pessimestic, but can't see dampen this start.

You must like the new badge, removing NSNO.

So far its like howard kendall 3rd time.

Would rather we invest in a midfielder from abroad mate than spend silly money in these sort of players wouldn't be surprised if baines is to go and we bring in moses, a LB on the cheap and someone like Mccarthy

Kone has had an effective career. He is quick and an intelligent striker. He brings us something different. Alcaraz is a classy footballer, with more ability on the ball than Jagielka, Distin or Duffy. The kid from Barca is an excellent acquisition for many reasons, not least that we've established a working relationship with one of the top clubs in the world. Robles only played 8 games for Wigan, but looks good enough to challenge Howard soon enough. I think you are on a wind up, or are just being negative for the sake of it. It is your cluelessness which is percieved because of your agenda. We shall see, anyway. By the way, Man Utd lost their first pre season game, and failed to score.

Why-oh-why do you keep slapping peeps in the face with nsno ? Taken to the extreme that you're using it, we'll give up footie all together because we only have one World class player to field and we've told everyone else and the youth to do one.

You've just immediatly responded the way Haze accused you of doing. You made a pointlessly dramatic comparison to Maldini (who was for many years simply peerless), sarcastically called him brilliant (without bothering to sure up your claim even as a joke) and then decided a solitary indiscretion equates to a 'huge attitude problem'. Yeah, he spat at someone. It's not the nicest thing in the world but some ridiculous cultural bias has made us okay with Dunc throttling and tw*tting his way through an entire career. Ask any Everton fan if they regard him as an attitude problem personified.

Agent fees and signing on bonuses are universal. It's like saying you're not counting the VAT when you buy something; whether you count it or not it's going to be universally and (almost) automatically applied. To get four players (albeit one loan) for well under £10 million by the 11th of June is very good business indeeed.

...I posted on the Alcaraz thread this morning that I was talking with one of the Wigan 1st team background staff last night. He said Kone was 'decent' but Alcaraz is top drawer. He couldn't understand why the rs hadn't gone him in favour of Toure. He also said we had got him on a steal. Top class centre back according to this bloke.

I'll be MORE than happy to eat my words on any of these signings. I've actually never been negative on a signing before, other than john spencer and mark hughes type signings.

I absolutely loathe the fact that Martinez couldnt find anyone in global football better than Kone -- its so disturbing that it actually still has me in shock. He is no way near what we need and if jelavic doesnt retrieve his form were goosed in attack.

Following this he signs Alcaraz who was part of a horriffic defence the entire time he was with wigan. However his participation in games did lower their conceded goals avg considerably -- but why have someone who is a walking timebomb in the squad? Any player spitting at another is a slant on the name of the football club as suarez is for the RS. We dont know who was in for alcaraz but any interest hasnt been publicized nor has he much claim to fame for being wigans best defender as they are all useless....

I'd be happy to be proven wrong but then he goes and signs Robles (admittedly i think he will be a good signing) again an ex wigan player. This points at short term job security through signing average players (good enough for mid table squads) with no focus on what we need to progress.

People saying "their better than who left" need to think about how much better they are...moyes and joe royle (best two managers of recent times) went for improving the team at all times and thus inproving the squad.

You progress by improving the team, not by signing average squad players who are unlikely to push the players ahead of them.

Not quite Maldini-esque but read and weep: http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/antolin-alcaraz/leistungsdaten/spieler_14259_2012.html

Please note he only came on v the RS when it was already 4-0. He clearly made a difference to Wigan's defence when he played. I've said this to death already and it's getting tiresome.

As for Kone, he was level on goals with Tevez, Defoe, Giroud etc last season despite having such creative forces as Jean Beausejour and Shaun Maloney behind him.

I suggest you do your homework, too. This was only last season, not too far back...
