The summer 2013 Everton transfer rumourZ thread

I'm McCarthy's biggest fan - would gladly sell Felli to get him and some extra punds in. IMO he will become the next Roy Keane - powerful, good passing and able to play equally well as a DM or a box-to-box midfielder.

We will never agree on this mate. But i'll ask you one thing:

Do you think we could get a better player for the amount (or less) than McCarthy would cost?

Whatever happens transfer wise during the summer I just don't want to start the new season
With Jella and Victor as our only strikers.

I think that Martinez will try to sign McCarthy above all others.
I think he is already an excellent player who will improve further over the next three or four seasons. In time he will become an all round midfielder , I believe he will be one of the top players in the premiership.
The only thing that may prevent this happening is finance.
McManaman still has a lot to prove over a full season. In fact a year in the championship playing every week may be the very best thing for him.

Hard to say, I have not seen enough of someone like Leroy Fer to say whether is a better player. No doubt McCarthy's fee would be inflated with the PL-experience-percentage, however I do not see him wanting to play in the Championship and that could have a bearing. I believe around £10 m. would be enough to get him.

Not imperative but I don't think we should have players with those kind of wages on the bench. I would be happier to have Duffy on the pitch anyway.

Well, yeah
Imperative though if we want to bring in marquee signings without losing Fellaini or Baines

Victor Moses is almost certainly overpaid at Chelsea, I don't see us overpaying him.

You think McCarthy is better than Fer ?

£10m is way too much for him IMO. But i would say that.

And i'm certain we could get better than him for less. If that's the position we look to strengthen.

I don't see him playing in the Championship next season though. Trap has been bigging him up before ROI's game with Spain. I just see him sitting nicely in West Ham's midfield.

Ban Jelavic from working the channels, make sure all his work is within the penalty area. Let Moses and Mirallas swap sides, to cause confusion. I reckon it could work for us.

We can dream, but Jelavic would get goals for us in this formation as you say, the service would be different for him.

It´s the Martin O´Neil old fashioned British school of football. Two box-to-box central midfielders who win the ball and provide long diagonals to the wings, where you have proper pacey players who´ll carry it to the bye line and provide crosses for a target man in the centre.

It´s an ok strategy but I doubt we´d do better than Aston Villa did 5 years ago when they had Young, Agbonlahor and Carew.

I imagine Martinez will want to work with the squad before he signs anyone else anyway. Be surprised if we sign anyone in the next 4/5 weeks.

I agree here, I can see him becoming 1 of the best mids in the league, How many 22 year olds have his experience and 14 international caps, which should also be a much higher number. He is getting better every season and runs games for Ireland (when you could basically say he is the only centre mid considering he has to carry Glenn Whelan or whatever other s**** is put in beside him)

I havent seen enough of Fer to say weather he is better or not but if Fellaini goes why not get both. 22 And 23 years old they could form a good partnership for years to come.

Great post this. It's alright to use that as an option, but for it to really work you need creativity through the middle as well as crosses from the flanks. Would make us a lot less predictable as well.

We could never cope with that cart. Bit like Kone, but for different reasons. Whereas Carew had brute force and sheer strength, Kone is a niggly get who gave us nightmares every time he faced us.

From that interview he did with the Wigan fan forum it's clear he sees the role of the ball carrier from out of defence to midfield as crucial to the way he wants to play. Someone like Rodwell did this well for us but I cant think of a natural in the position on our books atm. It's one of the reasons the backline resorted to punting so often. I'm curious to see how RM solves this - either by buying or identifying someone in-house.
