The summer 2013 Everton transfer rumourZ thread

Great post this. It's alright to use that as an option, but for it to really work you need creativity through the middle as well as crosses from the flanks. Would make us a lot less predictable as well.

In my opinion two out-and-out full throttle attacking wingers rarely work and tend to suffocate the rest of the midfield with defensive headaches.

Better to use one and let the rest of the midfield play a bit and interchange attacking responsibility between them.

An obvious exception of course is Bayern Munich but they have so much quality all over the pitch they can score from any position at any time.

I recken he will know we need another striker tho no matter who comes in and goes.

IMO not having a striker cost us C/L,I know strikers come at a premium but we never seem able to find one
Be it through the youth teams or purchasing one, we have had a few stop gaps like, but not the real article.

From that interview he did with the Wigan fan forum it's clear he sees the role of the ball carrier from out of defence to midfield as crucial to the way he wants to play. Someone like Rodwell did this well for us but I cant think of a natural in the position on our books atm. It's one of the reasons the backline resorted to punting so often. I'm curious to see how RM solves this - either by buying or identifying someone in-house.

Shouldn´t that really be Fellainis job?

Surely Gibson???

When i read that I felt as though he was describing Gibson.

Gibson is the closest we have to that. He often drops very deep only for Jags & Co to ignore him. I have seen Moyes and Captain Fantastic tell the central defense to hit it long, even with Gibson available, he doesnt look happy.

Could anyone link this interview?

This would be very exciting to watch! Mirallas and Moses either side of an on form Jelavic would be deadly.

I also think that with Mirallas and Moses either side, Jelavic would find his form again as he would be more likely to get direct, drilled balls across the box as apposed to the service he got last year and he wouldn't have to go out wide with a player either side of him.

Yeah I'm kind of hoping Martinez switches to a 4-3-3, most definately for home games anyway. Mirallas best posistion is left hand side of a 3 pronged attack. I rate Moses too if that rumour was true! Would add Donovan too in jan for free for cover for both sides.

Pienaar Osman Barkley Gibson fellaini left to fight it out for the CM spots, though feel one more would need to be added.

Would be very worried going with just jelavic and Vic tho...

right after my shambolic team for next year which included 12 players starting and jagleika up front and playing cb somehow (a lesson to never think footy when getting nagged to watch a show by the missus)

its a fresh day got my brain back on and the focus back time to save some credibility i hope ;p

if we analyze the current team, its pretty glaringly obvious where the areas we desperately need either cover for are or most importantly a quality starter to slot right in. So time to go through it position by position is the best way and the way in his own mind im sure martinez is already doing

goalie, we have Howard, no backup at the team, starter id say was inconsistent and over the course of the season will drop us more points than he will earn us, ideally a top class keeper to come in ahead of him with Howard as backup, but with the finances and priorities elsewhere we may be better served putting it off for a year and just trying to get a good veteran backup such as Gordon or Given etc

Center backs We have assuming Johnny goes (and being honest even if he stays i wouldn't want him playing for us after last years efforts) a total of Jags, Distan, Duffy and Stones, so could do with another veteran backup type, ideally a free and someone who has played in the prem at a decent level, off top of my head aclaraz, gallas, upson or someone of that level, IF we start 3 at the back then its more likely we need to target someone we'd have to pay decent money for to come in and start day one

Fullbacks Baines and Oviedo at left, Coleman and Hibbert for the right, so quality starters and okay depth, with Stones and Garbutt able to come in and do a short term job should we have ultra bad luck in injuries etc, so nowt needed in this area

Center mid Assuming we lose fellaini its a glaring whole in the center but one that unlike forward is more easily filled, then it comes down to what type of player do we need for their, we currently have Gibbo, Osman, Barkley and Lundstram, the latter two very promising but as of yet totally unproven, we need a really top quality lid to come in, and maybe depending on formations two for the center given that gibbo has hardly the best record at staying fit for any length of time, be that fer, or defour or the wigan lad i dunno but it has to be quality

Widemen we have mirrales and pinnear and the young lad from killy should start to see some time i hope this year if he keeps progressing, but that leaves us needing without doubt someone to start on the right with miralles on the left and pinnear as cover for both sides, this along with a forward and center mid are the prio areas

Forwards Only have Jelavich anichebe and miralles who can play their, assuming anichebe isnt suited to martinez style we need 1 or more likely two coming in for us here, A good quality forward is a must and your looking at 10 million for that minimum, the second could easily be a loan of quality (lukaku, mario gomez, or any other top player out of favor where he is who cant get a permanent move) - it is world cup year so chances are theirs gonna be a few people itching to loan for more game time this year

So long wall of text but we need a starter for right wing and center mid, and up front, ideally a back up of quality for goal center back forward and center-mid/wing

If felli stays then the need for a starter in mid disappears but the need for a quality back up would still be their, and looking at the areas we need to fill i dont think short of something ****ing strange happening and their being more than 10m available without sales, we dont have the option if we want to fill these areas than to sell felli, replace him and another spot we need a starter with the money and invest the money we have left over combined with any non sale money to fill that third spot, the back up spots can and need to be filled by a combo of bargains, loans and frees

Flicked through a Sunday rag and spotted talk of us handing Wigan £30m for three of their players.

Bloody hell I hate the summer sometimes.

What we allow for wages won't have changed that much. So far, Neville, Hitzlesperger and Mucha have left. Given that we appeared to be trying to bring someone in last window, maybe there is room for one more, maybe not. It is imperative that we move Heitinga on.
I wonder if the saving on the managers wages gets factored in or not? I am sure Martinez won't be on anywhere near what Moyes was anyway.

We also had to pay compensation though and didn't get any for Moyes

It's likely that we have some extra space in the wage bill on the back of extra tv revenue, makes more sense as salary than speeding it on transfer fees.

We would've had to pay Fer if his deal went through.
