Clint Dempsey. LOL.

Yeah he's total gash. 23 goal IAC 2 years ago for an average Fulham side. Finished fourth on the FWA Footballer of the Year list behind winner Robin van Persie and Manchester United pair Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes. Laughable.

WTF He is terrible jdawg. FYI.

Jdawg bro, he had a freak Season.

His goal scoring record in every other Season is terrible.

But I think hes not without talent, just cant see Spurs letting him go for cheap, plus hes 30, we really need to stop buying 30 year olds.

Not a bad point, but none of the other teams there are in it cos they play americans so I wouldn't be conviced that's the reason we were invited.

And I meant in monetary terms, we're not real madrid where we can buy ronaldo and make that up in shirt sales. If a player doesn't improve us on the pitch then we won't make up the money spent by merchandise sold. We just won't.

I maintain that buying a player for marketing reasons is self defeating and shouldn't be a part of a conversation about transfers.

Let's be honest here - the other teams in the tourney (minus LA) are globally more well known than we are. I love us, but just being realistic here. It helps that a current American plays on the team, and Everton is more well known in the states due to Donovan's time here. I think that was definitely a part of the equation that you cannot ignore. All of the equation? Of course not. Or else they would have invited Stoke City/USA.

In my long rant I mentioned that only looking at shirt sales is short sighted. There are many other things that make up building a brand, something that our club is not great at.

Priority #1 is the player himself - where he plays, quality, does he fit into the culture etc. Of course that's true.

But if there's an added benefit of marketability, I don't see how that's a problem.

That was a good argument for a player in a position of need that we had last year. Not the case this time around.

Journalist on ESPN reporting it's not Seattle. It could be us.

I really don't think we'll go for Dempsey, but if we do, my moderate optimism will evaporate as it'd represent the start of exactly (to an absolute t, tbf), what I expected and feared would happen when Moyes went, begin to take place. This is not a moan at Martinez, but if he signs players like this he will reinforce the "glass" ceiling" we face and surely lower it over time. I am satisfied with the deals so far providing we now show a bit more ambition than Clint Dempsey.

I am presuming there's a decent amount more money in the kitty as I refuse to believe RM has just spent our biggest net spend in God knows how long on 3 Wigan players. Moyes bought Kevin Mirallas for just over £5m less than a year ago. There are good deals to be had for top 4 quality players. Big few weeks for Bobby.

I don't think we have a lower global profile than valencia do we?

Fair point, that one could be close. A few years ago I might have said yes. Now. Not so sure.

Also, LA has a fair global profile as well due to Golden Balls.

To be fair it takes a while to scout players from lesser leagues who have the potential to be good prem players.

I think if Martinez is going to sign 'a Mirallas' (good player low fee) it will likely be next season, or heaven forbid january.

But yeeah I also refuse to believe our entire transfer fee has went on 3 Wigan players. WORLD MARKET BOBBY!

Im underwhelmed by his signings so far.

Im peed off that Kone cant play cos hes hungry, hes gonna have to score lots of goals to get back in my good books.
Alcatraatreaxz looks like an injury prone crock.
And the goal we conceded at Blackburn hasnt filled me with confidence in Robles.
The Barca lid should be good, but untill I see him play, who knows, plus, hes going back.
