Anyone any thoughts on Venice? Getting a good price for 3 nights in November at the minute but a little hesitant as i've heard it coasts and arm and a leg to eat out?

went for a day out and was pleasantly surprised, obviously if you wish to sit on st marks sq and sip a coffee then you're gonna pay through your nose, but away from the main squares everything was reasonable.
On our flight home the Ryanair In Flight Mag had an article on visiting venice on a budget, worth looking up online tbh

After weighing up my options (between Bratislava, Venice and Warsaw) i've decided to go for Warsaw for 3 nights in November. Venice would o been nice, but was overall too expensive and I thought Summer may be a better time to visit. Looking forward to it, never been to Poland before.

May or September/October is best for Venice - the high summer season is murder because of the heat and the bus/cruise ships/ferry trips. Stay overnight in Venice in an apartment if you can - it's a bit like a Greek island in that it empties out after 17.00 and you can stroll around comfortably and get a taste of the atmosphere. Carnival time (week before Shrove Tuesday) in winter is one of those bucket-trip experiences, but accommodation can be pricey.

Cheers for that man. The flights there were very reasonable too, but i'll certainly look to get there maybe around May time hopefully.

May would be an ideal time to go to Venice as it'll be quieter and nowhere near as hot as it is when we usually go in July. We've gone to an apartment in Lido Di Jesolo in the Veneto region for the last 9 years and always have at least 1 day in Venice while we're there. Spent our Silver Wedding anniversary there this summer, had a fantastic meal, bottle of prosecco and a few beers in the north of the city, much less touristy than San Marco and Rialto.

I'm heading to Paris in November, I've never been. Any tips.

My main tip to anyone would be to avoid the summer because the service staff turn into utter [bad words], even if you're speaking in French, they go out of their way to be difficult whilst trying to flirt with your bird, so you're already onto a winner there. I didn't see any of this in February, plus most attractions are obviously quieter out of season and personally I thought the majority look better at night (Eiffel, Champs elysees, outside The Louvre and the view from the Sacre Coeur at dusk).

I'd swerve the Moulin Rouge, it's a bit of a rip-off and both times I've missed out on the Catacombs, you're basically in for a long old queue whenever you turn up, but I hear good things!

The metro has ticket machines in most stations btw with a big union-jack button on it for you. There is a thing called a Carnet (10 individual tickets), I am certain this works out the cheapest option as quite quickly you realise it's nicer to walk around and just use them for the longer trips.

...also I wanted to warn you there's one station with an insane amount of steps up to ground level, but I can't for the life of me remember which one! (Pigalle maybe? sorry, you can curse me when you find it).

Go up to Sacre Cour, lovely views over the city from there. Also check out the Centre Pompidou if you're into Modern Art. If you wanna go out there's a place called Cab, which is in a little square just down the side of the Louvre. Went there when I stayed with a girl who lived there with a few of her musician friends. Expensive though, €15 for a bottle of Bud!

I'll give the Pompidou Centre a go, I am a Town Planner so I would like to see the building

Nope, looks nice though...it may surprise you.

I'm staying pretty much a 20 second walk from that view

Gdansk is awesome. Never seen so many hotties either, wowsers

Any recommendations? We fly out from Edinburgh on October 10th for 4 days and even though we've looked up a few bar/restaurants/trip to Sopot, it's always good to get advice from someone who's actually there.
