probably the best peanut butter stout on the planet. They do a Mexican chocolate one

sigh.... Americans....

the transition from Miller Lite to artisanal pomegranate-kale wheat beer, or.......... whatever ^that^ is, is like how Russians went from eating out of sacks of potatoes and then wearing them to diamond-encrusted Mercedes within a decade

some day you'll figure it out.... eventually ; )

Starting to think I should really do some proper travelling/backpacking. Since I left 6th form college in 2010 I have been in full-time work and apart from a few holidays here and there and mainly using annual leave on watching Everton I need to do something else!

Both of my brothers (younger & older but similar in age) have been to Australia, South America, Asia and one is currently living in Canada window cleaning skyscrapers! Whilst I'm living at home with the parents. Saving up my money to move out very well considering property prices down here but I've just got the feeling now that if I don't do something now before I have a mortgage etc then I never will!

Although I do really enjoy flying I quite like the idea of the trans Siberia railway from Moscow through to Mongolia/ Beijing. Might be a good idea next summer if this is going to be their year...
Do it mate. You can do it at any time in your life but IMO the younger you do it the better. I never met anyone who regretted going backpacking.

Off to Japan in October. Will be sticking to the South around Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Hiroshima, going to a few smaller towns in between.

Any recommendations gratefully received. Looking forward to trying all different boss types of food, sake and beer.

..tasted saki whilst on holiday in Majorca earlier in the summer. Pleasant and not nearly as harsh as I thought.

Yeah I've had it here in Frankfurt. Had it warm and it was good. Looking forward to "tasting" (drinking) my fair share over there.

Off to Paris in September for a weekend. Any Food/Drink shouts would be greatly appreciated.

Don’t eat or drink around the Eiffel Tower, costs a fortune. Pretty sure they were charging around €14 for a pint of kronenberg when we went in December 2016. The was a restaurant near the arc de triumph that was reasonable prices. Think we paid about €130 for 4 meals and couple of drinks.

...noticed a teenager in Paphos airport yesterday wearing a retro, mid-80s Everton shirt boarding a flight to Bristol. He was with his folks, so @roydo isn’t alone in the West Country.

Plenty of Blues even in my small slice of the West Country mate. ;)

Even when we first moved down, mid 70's ish, was astounded that the Deputy Head of my primary school was a massive Blue! He became a firm friend of my Dad, and me, when I grew up a bit.

With Garda, depends on whether you are south end or north end as it takes a while to get around the whole lake and you only have three days.

Obviously do the Garda ferry tour for whichever end of the lake you are at. Traffic is a nightmare in high season so the boat is the easiest way around.

North end: Limone (small village on hill above water with lemon groves); Riva (main northern town with some history and an older bit, nice restaurants); Malcesine (you can enjoy the town and go up Monte Baldo in cable car and walk or take it back down again)
South end: Bardolino is a nice base (winetasting, olive oil museum); Sirmione (mobbed with visitors but still worth a visit for its views); Gardone Riviera (odd villa to a Fascist war hero outside the town).

If you have your own transport, the area to the south of Peschiera (also worth a look) is the Mincio - Valeggio sul Mincio has its own type of tortellini and some great wine from that region. (In fact, the wine is almost all good from around the Garda region: Bardolino rose and red; white from above Garda; and Valpolicella and Soave not so far away.)
nice one mate

..it was really nice to see, and I presume the loyalty was passed from father to his son.

Doubt he was a johnny come lately glory hunter!

Was at the docks the other day, delivering, and a lorry driver flagged me down for directions to a plant. Scouse as you like, and in a EFC top. The directions were dead difficult to explain, "pass the crane, third porto cabin on the left, then skip behind the warehouse with the green door" type of detail.

So I told him to jump in and I would show him. Lovely bloke, lurks on here, and although he had driven down from Widness that morning, actually lived a few doors from me in Portishead for a few years. Small world.

2 things. What thread we in? Oh Travel. Well technically he had travelled.

And does Widness have 2 "S"?
