going there next month for 4 nights... any suggestions for an itinerary?
with so much to see i bet you could stay for a month and not see all the sights. Get a RomaPass as they are really useful for getting about and jumping queues. The Vatican, Colosseum and roman forum are must see but try and visit as early as possible, as the crowds soon build up. The Pantheon, Trevi fountain and Spanish steps are also worth a look. Great city and would definitely go back.

Been in the Philippines for three weeks. The women. My gosh, the women. I'm an ugly get and it's like moths to a flame. Want to stay here forever. Also the country is absolutely beautiful. Three islands in so far and completely in love with the nature, the food, the colours, the weather, the smells..

Looking for ideas for a special celebration holiday in May next year. Current front-runner is three night in Singapore, Orient Express type train to Bangkok with three nights on board, two nights in and around Bangkok and 7 nights in Ko Samui with lots of itinerary in between.
Any suggestions on something else worth considering?
Cape Town for a few nights, Blue train to Pretoria, interior flight to the Kruger NP, then fly back via Jo'Burg. South Africa is dirt cheap and the food is amazing. Having said that, their winter starts in May... so it'll be around 14 to 18 degrees most days.

Loved the city. Huge ancient history buff so was fun to nerd out on the forum. Of everywhere I have been Roma is the place I most want to return to. (Rio maybe taking 2nd)

Agree on Roma pass, skipped massive lines at the Colosseum. Also you can buy tickets to the Vatican museum online, pick your time, etc... enabled us ot skip a line of maybe 1000 people on a grey and rainy day.

We stayed in a hotel near the Terminal for the subway making it easy to get around. Also for some odd reason the tv had a separate speaker in the bathroom, meaning she could sleep and I could listen to Serie A football/The Milan Propaganda Network (almost every match, over three days were replays Milan, winning.)

Off to Rome for a few days early sat. Unfortunately missing the Fulham game but got tickets for Roma-Lazio, so its not all bad. Looking forward to seeing a few of the sights and the weather looks half decent.
I love Rome. Must be my favourite city.

Any recommendations for areas with good bars (any craft beer pubs there or is it mostly wine bars), and shopping areas?...

It is on the list to be fair. I spend a fair bit of time in Joburg with work and haven’t made it to Cape Town yet. Was thinking Mozambique beach break at the end of it

We stayed in a hotel near the main station. Didn't really go in any bars as such, but, ate in a number of restaurants. There is a massive difference in price between beer in a supermarket and beer in the restaurants. I paid just over one euro for a large Peroni in a supermarket, but, paid about thirteen euros for a similar sized beer in a restaurant.

Jeez!... Guess I'll be having a few beers in my hotel room so

We found a decent Irish pub in the centre - Trinity College. although most of our drinking was done in bars close to the apartment, which was in the suburbs. As you would expect the closer you got to the centre the more expensive it became.
