About one week left in my 5 week Argie Extravaganza.

Buenos Aires for a "work-cation" week was cool. A friend of mine and his wife made it down for their own Argie vacation, met up for Christmas full moon rooftop malbec and Cuban cigars.

Patagonia has been crazy. two weeks of constant go go go. El Calafate for a couple days, saw Perito Moreno Glaciar, then off to El Calafate (pop 1,100) for a cool 20km hike to a lake with a ridiculous view of Mount Fitz Roy. Shuffled on over to Puerto Natales, Chile for a couple days to visit the Torres del Paine national park. Finally did three days in Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world. It was 14 out... in their 4th of July weekend.

Currently halfway through two weeks of "cool-down" in Bariloche, a Germanic/Swiss feeling town nestled between the Andes and a big lake. Nice not to have to live out of a backpack and catch a flight or five hour busride every 72 hours.

Lots of steak. Lots of Patagonic Lamb. Lots of Malbec. Lots of microbrews... though most places in Argentine Patagonia have three flavors - Rubia (blonde), Roja (Red... Scotch ale? IPA some times... red others), and Negra (porterstouts).

Absolutely superb, and I'm hugely envious!

Not sure whether this has been done before but couldn't find anything recent...

I'm a huge lover of anything to do with travelling and experiencing other countries. Part of my job enables me to travel which is a huge bonus for me. I've just started saving up to travel around the world in the next 5 years and was wondering what your absolute favourite place is that you've been too? Or anywhere you've always wanted to go?
LOL

Where to after Delhi, Agra?

Yip, Taj Mahal awaits. Figured it be easier for me to stop a night there as I've read that the Taj is at its best during sunrise and sunset but unfortunately I wouldn't be able to do that if I was returning to Delhi and at only £4 for the night I can't complain.

I've done that train journey, did you buy your ticket from the 'freedom fighters, VIPs and foreign tourists" counter!!

lol the host at the hostel booked it. Travelled in AC3 though, 600 rupees. Next time for such an extensive journey I'll be travelling first class for the same cost as a twenty minute train journey in the UK...

Did you find yourself turning vegetarian when you were in India, @ToffeeDoug? I've not had meat in the time I've been here, and have just been for a domino's where I choose the vegetarian option...

3 1/2 hrs on the train from Delhi if memory serves me right.

The Red Fort in Agra is definitely worth visiting, just up the river from the Taj (nice photos to be had with it in the background!)

Yes, although my two visits to India were only 6 days and 14 days so not there long really. Didn't necessarily go veggie through choice but it is more much common in India for curry (to give it a broad label) to be free of meat than the equivalent meals in the UK. So, tuck in to lentils, potatoes, spinach, cauliflower, cabbage, panir, onions etc)

Anyone been to Chiang Mai? Got 5 nights booked in April, thinking white water rafting, elephants and jungle trecks.

Yep, brilliant it was, but a good while ago in c.1991, and friend who went recently tells me it is very different now, with internet cafes everywhere and nearby jungle rooftop zip wire rides etc now in situ. I remember a high street full of travel agencies organising trips of different lengths and complexities. We did a fairly standard 3 day / 2 night one, wonderful it was but also tough work in places getting up hillsides from the valley floor where the villages were.

Looking for somewhere to go for a week in April with the Mrs and our youngest who's 14 and adventurous....at this point likely to be Cape Town or Sun City as we want somewhere with semi decent weather. Cuba is also on the list...anyone got any interesting recommendations? Cheers
