Probably going to Berlin over the Christmas holidays. What's a good area to stay? My gf is in charge of the itinerary, but any suggestions I should make?

There's the 25 hours hotel with the Monkey Bar atop it. Nice views of the zoo from there, including the monkey enclosure which is why I imagine its called that. I quite like Prenzlauer Berg - good eating and drinking options. Also Friedrichshain as mentioned before and there's lots going on in Kreuzberg too. Mitte is ok for the tourist sites. There are probably loads more options too. It's a great city.

Anyone been to Brugge?

Looking like our NY Christmas trip is being shafted for this year so looking at a european city instead. She seems to like the idea of here, but I think the only thing I know about Brugge is that we bought Daniel Amokachi from Club Brugge. And that isn't quite swinging it.

Is it any good? Other recommendations would be appreciated too.

Yes, and it was the day that Peter Schmeichel scored against us as Villa goalie, strange what sticks in the memory!

Old buildings, canals, museums, galleries, horse drawn carriages, beer, chocolate.....I would imagine Christmas market time though would be heaving and expensive!

I was in a jacquizzi in Dominican Republic when I heard about Schmeichel's goal, I did try and watch it in some dodgy sports bar but they didnt have it on.

Coinincidently a young local boy came in the bar and wanted to shoe-shine my suede La Coste trainees for a dollar.

Definately strange what sticks in the memory lol

Got back from Vilnius yesterday after spending 3 nights there. Cracking little city and lovely cheap local beer. Trakai 20 miles away is a great spot too. The women there are what you'd expect ;)

Kind of expecting the heaving and expensive wherever we end up.

Brugge decent then yeah?

Thanks for the tips, but we're actually going to Munich now! Will keep Berlin on the list tho, have heard lots of good things about it.

I've been a couple of times and think it's a great place. Good mix of old buildings and night life, Belgian beer etc. If you haven't seen it, watch the film In Bruges - it's a great watch and shows what the city is like.

I haven't actually but it's a decent film isn't it?

Will give it a watch. Cheers.
