I'm getting the itch to go travelling again, unfortunately I won't have enough PAL days until February

Most likely India again though...

Next year's confirmed holidays:

- 3 weeks in Asia - flying in and out of Bangkok and spending time in China (Chengdu, Xi'an) and then probably across to Ha Noi in Vietnam.
- 3 days in Barcelona
- 2 days in Lisbon

Likely spending 2 weeks in Seattle for work, so will tag another week / fortnight onto the end of that and visit San Diego, San Francisco and then possibly up to Vancouver.

Good times!

Out of interest, why Hanoi?

I thought it was just me that hated Vietnam but spoke with a few others and literally no one likes it...theres nothing there unless you go to a beach resort.

^this is from a man who isn't street-smart enough to find anything to do in New York.

ignore him, Vietnam is wonderful. PM if you want any suggestions... I've been working in Hanoi on and off for 10 years

eh? i was taken out all the time in NYC. Empty when i went during the financial crisis.

Compared to other places like Tokyo it didnt offer much imo...tokyo is a really fabulous place..

Vietnam...i dont know a single person who stays longer than 3 days and isnt bored.

Friend just came back from a wedding in hanoi, said they struggled to find things to do while they were over there...

I dont see the attraction? Have you been to HCM? Nothing there bar a small town centre with a little market and river cruises, id wager 10minutes walking and thats the centre done, some good food places tucked away in random areas but not as good as other asian restos...we switched hotels every few days there...stayed in most of the top ones which are ok but not great and again pretty boring.

Also went to towns/cities 5 or 6 hours away by car and saw locals enjoy eating rats as well as fish from a filthy river....not poor people either, one bloke invited us into his house and his kids ate rat at dinner ...hes a senior banker.

Also so many scams on foreigners they dont allow local girls into hotels if accompanied by a foreigner...my girlfriend isnt vietnamese but kept getting asked for ID...rude. Pretty obvious she wasnt from there as she dressed well lol

i also was followed there and shown my weeks itinery which detailed everything i did all week...they then threatened to kidnap me if i didnt pay them. I ended up having to send my gf away first then i booked the last flight that day and just in case... i needed to sneak out taking several taxis to hotels, go inside then exit and repeat till i got to the airport.

i was so early that i went through immigration and just sat at the departure gate till one of the guys appeared asking me where i was going etc...he then got a clearly bribed security guy to ask for my passport and then walk off and back with it for ages + try and get me to go back through immigration again. Persistent kidnappers/extortionists/criminals.

Unsafe....boring...classless

So much weird stuff happened there to me there. first time i went was 10years+ ago when hyatt just opened and me and and ex from japan stayed there...chap pulled a knife on me lol edit: that was across the street outside a womans clothing store while she was inside and i went out for a cig....2 lads one with a blade.

Anyone been to Brugge?

Looking like our NY Christmas trip is being shafted for this year so looking at a european city instead. She seems to like the idea of here, but I think the only thing I know about Brugge is that we bought Daniel Amokachi from Club Brugge. And that isn't quite swinging it.

Is it any good? Other recommendations would be appreciated too.
