there's always going to be people who are always negative no matter who we sign, If he's in blue then i will back him. People will complain if we signed Messi saying - he isn't proven in the premier league .. can he play on a cold tueday night in stoke etc. Give Theo a chance

It's not "bashing" really though. Nobody is having a go at him; it's just an acknowledgement that he's not the quality we need. Same as Niasse - no ill will whatsoever towards the guy but quite clearly we need better than him.

Ironically enough this will probably signal the end of Lennon as an Everton player (either now or ultimately in the summer on a free).

Will go with nothing but my best wishes, but in that sense, we're upgrading the position with someone younger, quicker and better in terms of end product.

Comparing him to Lennon actually isn't pointless, because Lennon is getting games in our first team right now. I'm not saying he would have been my first choice or even a priority this window, but my point is people look down their nose at Walcott for being "gash" and "not gud enuff for a klub are size m8". But in reality we absolutely stink and Walcott improves us because he's better than our other players, that's just how it is.

So it’s sound to throw another £45m down the drain because he’s slightly better than Lennon

He’s nobody’s first choice Mike, but that’s not a reason to say “sound sign him up”. But good old Steve as done it again, with his intensive scouting network around the world, he sanctioned yet more PL garbage for Everton

He’ll be 34 on £110k a week when his Everton contract ends, and without pace he would never have made the grade as a footballer. Arsenal are pissing themselves

I'm not a head scout mate. Apparently Walsh got Mahrez in for a snip...why aren't we seeing that vision here?
Maybe we already have in Vlasic or Lookman. I am not sure it is so easy to just go out and pick up a great player for very little money.

I think that we have to accept that players being sold to premiership clubs now carry a premium. I think that transfer fees have nearly doubed in the last two or three seasons alone. After all 142m for Coutinho , I now see Mahrez being quoted at 100m . Sanchez going for 35m although there is only four monthe left in the season and he could be signed for nothing. Barkley, who hasn't kicked a ball all season and out of contrct in four months making 15m...it is all bonkers.

We see fees of three and four million for youngster who still have not made the under 23 team.

Football has changed utterly in the last two or three seasons and the days of picking up great potential for very little money may be gone.

I'm happy with this.

We have lots of young players who won't be 23 for another couple of seasons, longer in some cases. Pinning our hopes here and now on several 20 year olds is not smart and very likely to inhibit the development of individual players.

No problem with guys like Walcott coming in during the meantime. He addresses obvious weaknesses and adds pace and threat. He'll replace Lennon and Mirallas and I'm not sure how people could argue with that.

Comparing him to Lennon is a pointless act. It’s not Walcott or Lennon, there’s a shed load of fast, technically gifted players around the world. It’s why we pay the bald headed tit all that money.

This stinks of laziness and we’ve now added another “average” player to our ranks

This will cost us £45m in total. It’s simply not acceptable.
what other average players do you know who score 19 goals from the wing in the premier league?
no rush

No disrespect to Aaron Lennon, but there is no comparison in terms of career or goals scored between Walcott and Lennon.

i think he will have a positive effect on squad morale, without sounding wanting to sound cheesy he has that 'star quality' that can give players a lift

My brother in law is a ST holder at Arsenal, his views:

‘More than happy for you to take him off our hands. Will score goals, but he doesn’t really know how to play football and runs away from the ball’
