I just think the board wouldn't have hinted to Unsworth that the job would be his if they were just going to go out and try and get Tuchel.

No harm in doing that at all.

Unsworth is going to be given the chance to prove himself, which in turn gives us breathing time to contact whoever we may want in.

If Tuchel is indeed a target, then he will take a bit of convincing if he feels Bayern may come calling at some stage in the next 6 months or so...

  • Easily double, triple whatever wage he was on at Dortmund
  • Money to spend in Jan
  • New Stadium on the horizon
  • Chance to face off against Klopp
  • After getting this season out of the way, ambitions to become a top 4 club
I don't even think it would be as a hard a sell as some might think. Let's be honest he's not getting the job at any of last season's top 6 any time soon so if he wants to manage in the Premier League then we're his best bet.

The salary would by a mile exceed that mate, he was only on 1m euros a year at Dortmund, we'd be paying about 7-8 times that

Don't think they've hinted to Unsworth that it's his. Certainly didn't take that from his comments yesterday either.

“The chairman and the board have given me an opportunity and a run of games but results and performances will dictate my future as Everton manager.”

"I want to manage. It’s an amazing club to be manager of. I think the time has come for me to say that and I make no secret of it. I do have a wonderful job already and it is something I enjoy. Whatever will be, will be.”

He wants to be considered, as he should but I don't think there's been any sort of hint towards him getting the job.

I think we might wanna hold off paying 6 mil a year to anyone below proven winner status tbh, mate.

Say, 3-4 mil a year and then reassess after 18 months.

Klopp won titles and got to champions league finals.

Tuchel's record at Dortmund:

2015/16 - Bundesliga: 2nd / Cup: Runners-up / Europa: Quarter-Finals
+ improved Aubameyang as a striker
+ bought Julian Weigl - an outstanding young player who he identified as key to Dortmund challenging again
+ went on an 11-game winning streak
+ introduced youth players to the side regularly
- didn't sort out their defence

2016/17 - Bundesliga: 3rd (struggled at start but they came strong again. Leipzig shocked everybody with a great start) / Cup: Won / CL - qf's
+ Aubameyang won the Golden Boot - has lauded Tuchel as a huge part of this
+ Some really good attacking football
- defence still leaky - not helped by Hummels' departure

He's a good manager.

Not world class or anything, and there's clearly no guarantee he'd transition to the Prem, but a very good manager nevertheless.

However, i'm glad first and foremost that Unsworth is going to be given a chance.

Obviously not

Why not? You used the measuring stick of sayuing Klopp was much better because he won titles and reached a CL final (singular), same criteria Di Matteo is a better manager than Klopp as he actually won a CL final

Or alternatively - context has to be applied to any situation

Klopp won two titles at Dortmund when Bayern where in transition, after they got their act together they left Dortmund far behind, when he left Dortmund he finished 7th with a team which for half a season was in a relegation fight, he reaches lots of finals - yet constantly loses those finals.

Tuchel and Klopp are close in terms of ability, one is more proven - but also as he has been in the game longer - his flaws are also more apparent.

Bayern rate him higher than Klopp - and they do tend to have a good judge on managers.

But why didnt they appoint the Hoffenheim coach then?

They wanted a stop gap and someone to offer a quick fix

Nagelsmann is supposedly their long term target and they want him in at a settled time for the club - not after a relatively poor start etc.

Tuchel is also freely available so would have been easier to get. Hoffenheim have no plans to let Nagelsmann leave halfway through a season though of course should Bayern come calling then they'd find it hard to resist.
