No lad.Victor Valdez anyone?
Didn't know Doug was American... Anyways I'm just not a fan of over the top revisionist evaluations of players regardless of their nationality.
That's the thing though, basically every 'murican I've seen posting in here has agreed that Howard was bad last season and would be fine with Robles playing, what I (and others) take issue with is people acting as if he's been crap for years (He did well when we finished 5th) and the sole reason we finished 11th last season despite almost the whole squad being gash(besides a few like Stones). He'll start this year as we have other priorities that are more pressing in the squad such as buying a playmaker. Given that he'll be our no 1 this year people might as well support him. for me if a player is on the pitch for us they have my support as long as they're wearing the shirt, regardless of nationality. I say similar things in Ossie, naismith, Kev, etc threads as well so it has nothing to do with an American biasWe have almost a first eleven of top level players. Anyone not in that bracket needs to be replaced with someone of equal or better ability than the other players.
Behind that first eleven theres either fantastic potential or players without the quality to break into the first eleven.
Howards clearly not in the top level of keepers in the league, nor is he at a comparable level to others in the first eleven + he will be on big wages so cant just be moved onto the bench.
Valdes/Romero etc available and its really a no brainer...
However i think after Garbutt/Henen (keeping them) and Deulofeu/Cleverley,Martinez will add 2 more players this summer and then use next seasons money on a keeper and forward.
In my opinion its a risk as even just looking at his age its possible he could do a Distin this season.

Tell me why RM drops a keeper who kept three clean sheets for Tim H to come back and have nightmares of performances - Leicester at home bing a prime example?
How do assume that after three clean sheets???? TH was shown favouritism as his form on return I repeat was utter pants!Because Robles isn't a patch on Howard. Like it or not...that's the truth!!
"three clean sheets" I'm sick of hearing that quote like it actually means something. Everyone wanted Robles burned alive up until those 3 games where he maybe showed he wasn't completely useless!
Howard's really not that bad. He makes mistakes yes BUT he also makes some outstanding saves. He's saved us many points which seems to get ignored in the hate for him.
Don't get me wrong. Upgrading him sometime soon would be great but I guess it's not easy, because he's not completely useless like most seem to insist.
Is that why you negged me arguing the same post as a critic of Tim H? no wonder posters like you fetched system down! But arguably he had his best season for us in 13/14.
I only skimmed that long post, so maybe I missed it...basing it off your first paragraph.

I agree with most of what you said, but I would strongly prefer we brought in someone else to challenge Tim besides Joel. I guess Joel showed flashes and he's very tall, he just doesn't appear to have what it takes in my opinion. Hopefully I'm wrong.Look, we can all agree TH is a bit of a douche, is past his prime, and had a simply horrific season last year, although TBF he played loads better in the second half (which wasn't hard to do compared to his play pre-injury). But the pure vitriol over anything he does is comical - if he has a clean sheet it's b/c of the back four, or the team we played was gash, or any save he makes is lucky.
The fact remains he hasn't been pure garbage for the last 5 years as the pitchfork-toting crew like to point out. Has he ever been Top 5 class? Perhaps not. Perhaps at one point he could have been. This is all conjecture. American or not, I believe that based on his end of season form and first real break in a few years, he deserves to open the season as our no. 1, but on a relatively short leash given Joel's play in his run of games. However, we were ready to burn Joel alive prior to that run of games, so we need to put everything into perspective.
Why not? Wages? I've defended Howard here, but I'm sure Valdes would be an improvement and with the way things have gone at United we could probably get him for very cheap. No lad.
The problem is Tim H is his new contract till he is 39 years old no way we can fetch a keeper in untill he packs off to the MLS to get him off the wage bill - the only way to do that is to test Robles again , and this time if he performs keeps clean sheets leave him in the TH may realise he needs a move to the MLS!I agree with most of what you said, but I would strongly prefer we brought in someone else to challenge Tim besides Joel.
