TIM HOWARD THOUGH

Only difference is the pass back rule doesn't really make for extra responsibilities.

Of course it does, in the past teams would use the goalkeeper to take the sting out the game and relieve pressure. Now a goalkeeper has to recieve the ball to feet and try and keep possession for his own team, as well as not conceding from the back pass.

The RS for instance won many titles on the defence and goalkeeper passing it back and forth drawing teams forward and then by passing all the players as Dalglish and Rush took advantage of a long punt with no players around them.

Doesn't stop them catching simple crosses

Nah don't buy into that. Howard usually kicks it out for a throw to give possession back to the opposition so its not really a responsibility he is making use of.

They aren't allowed to pick it up from back passes putting more pressure on themselves and the defence compared to when most of the keepers Joey mentioned play. It's a vital role organising the defence and starting counter attacks when it's possible.

But you're right it's not a quick guide so best enjoy it at your leisure over the weekend maybe.

Doug - I think the idea of you with a tape measure on a school football pitch had more sense than that Video - do you think that our greatest
goalkeeper ever in Big Neville Southall ever needed to watch that - read his autobiography - it was a natural instinct for him , and hard work!
I notice in the opening lines of the video the instructor who sounds American, asked to put your hands up to ask any questions too bad if TH was in attendance as he would drop his pen on the floor then fall on his A@se!lol
You are now taking the P@ss your arguments are getting so desperate, send the TWO HOUR video to Tim will you, but has he stated he has been in goal for EFC for an age , and nothing worries him or you as RM feels he is an automatic choice and it may cost RM his job!!

Ok, argue this with me Dougie ...... The first goal last night, Howard should never be expected to save that, we agree on that, but.... Look where he is stood when the shot is taken, if the ball had been a couple of feet further into the middle of the goal he still wouldn't have saved it..... And that is purely down to his bad starting position which left the whole right hand side of his goal a huge target.

What's he meant to do, the players attacking for the wing beats Barry like he's a kid with a broken leg and wraps his foot round the shot to put it into the far corner. Howard moves from covering the near post as be approaches Barry and moves into the centre of his goal along the 6 yard line, if it's not perfectly in the corner he's going for it.

But it's a crap example Kurt because as as say in your second line "he should never be expected to save that".

Yes Doug agree with you, but if the shot had been a miss hit looped shot instead of a firecracker of a shot TH would have struggled to get near it, as he is so far off his line look where their keeper was for Lukarkus thunderbolt he at least dived for the shot our keeper has lead in his boots, and is badly positioned i.e. too far off his line!

It's a very good example and again, you're missing the point.... His position to start off is hopelessly wrong.

Joey Lukaku is 5 yards closer and the balls already been pinged about their penalty area before it comes to him, their keeper has retreated like he should.

Howards blameless there's no point making what if scenarios we conceded enough goals without imagining others going in.

One thing I think we can all agree on : Howard has had a very poor season.

He also comes across to me as being a bit of a fruit loop

definitely the best goalkeeper to play for us in the Premier League with a first name and Surname that could both be First names, closely followed by Paul Gerrard

It's an awful explain Kurt you said yourself he'd not save as the shot was to good, he was central to the goal if it's not in the corner Howards in a good position.
