Emery wants a Deschamps/Krychowiak style deep lying, tactically/positionally astute ball playing CM of the kind he has always deployed. This kid like Onana is more of a raw box to box athlete type who needs work on technique and tactical/positional acumen. He is arguably a better fit for Dyche and certainly more similar to Onana. Thelwell must see it that way.

True but any player with some Prem experience, some European competition experience, quite a bit of Championship experience, is English, goes for silly money nowadays.
If we buy him for 10 mil and he doesn't do well here we won't get more than 10 mil for him when we sell him this is very obvious but keeps being ignored by people who have made up a scenario in their head where players values increase exponentially until they're 25.

I've never seen him play, won't really bother to watch the videos. If he comes here we'll see what he can do.

But financially, a 10 million fee with a low wage player who can be at worst a squad option is good value. That there's upside in his play and value is a bonus.

The 140k a week wage seems high tho.

Of course that can happen but you've paid £10m for a largely unused substitute. Last season we were selling these players for 15 and 18m. Players don't lose their value massively unless they became a car crash of a player or are over the hill. For a 20 year-old going from one Prem club to another that is unlikely to happen over the next season or two.

Of course they do! What we're buying is potential and the idea that not making it at one club doesn't mean he won't make it another as soon as he's not made the grade at 2 clubs his potential value reduces massively thats obvious. If what you were saying is true every single academy product would be getting sold for 10 mil but they aren't are they so thats all you need to know to see that its not true.

Strange deal this one. Why if money is tight and we’re going through a takeover are they spending 10m on a player who can’t get near the first team?
because we have a very thin squad, the 10M is almost certainly with add ons, it’s peanuts for a player these days, and the way the price is spread over the length contract means it will have a nominal impact on our PSR.
