I'm sure every striker would love to stand around and wait for chances to be put on a plate for them, but unfortunately it's not that easy.

Lineker got off to a slow start he was not a back to goal player - fast had ability could interlink the play - I agree Lukaku has to work on his hold up play I agree, but a good manager you tell your team to play to his strengths which are the through ball down thve sides or the neat chip over the top - That's what Howard Kendall had to do we became very direct with Lineker scoring loads so close to getting the double that year he was that good Barcelona took him from us!
We won the title the year after reverting to a different style of attacking football - Lukaku ten goals with no service just imagine if he got the service he heeds - he is not the finished article by any means I agree with that, but we have to try and keep him or get to use him till a better forewards can be purchased - any ideas?
Lineker also had great strike partners in Heath and Shsrp too by the way!

It always amazes that they only did the double once despite their total domination of English football. Sadly it was that season. 88 they blew it against Wimbledon and 89 they blew it due to the wonderful Michael Thomas.

We did blow the double that year in so many ways the Everton way not the Lineker way - he went on to be a big hit at Barcelona, and Spurs, don't like him now , but boy could he score for us!
Doh double chance and that other lot just had to poo poo on us :rant:
