Tbh even in the last year for Villa he's been two different players. Under Lambert a safe but sideways passer with little imagination whilst under Sherwood far more dynamic with some good forward passes, intelligently moving into space and a decent tackler defensively.

Hopefully he is the latter more often in a blue shirt.

It's probably the same for most players though, they can look totally different players under different managers or depending on what role they are asked to play.

The fact he once looked good under Martinez is probably a good sign.
