What did you call me!? I won't stand for it and will report you to the mods.
You've failed me for the last time, Starscream.

In this message, I have clearly demonstrated the horror that is quoting below text. You start reading the message, have no context within which to place it, and by the time you have read it, you realize he's responding to a quote too late. Then you find yourself reading his message again, because you forgot what it was he said. Congratulations, you've been forced to read a crap post twice.

What a melodramatic little photoshopper you are x

How I hope the report in this morning Guardian about El Bob seriously pursuing Tom Cleverley is misplaced and unsuccessful.

Nailing our colours to the mast against this story, the collective thoughts of my brother and I are this...

He's NOT a Tackler.
He is NOT a destructive (Fabregas-style) passer.
He does NOT get goals.
We do NOT need defensive midfielders.

What is his best position?
Answer - playing for Aston Villa !!

He is one of a generation of UK footballers spawned by Xavi, Iniesta... but coached (inanely) by UK coaches to run around, play pointless short sideways passes, and get sweaty.

He'll add little or nothing to our squad.

And we hope and pray that Manure agreeing to this deal as they sure as sh1t will do, will not be their bargaining chip towards any move in the opposite direction for any one or all of Barkley, Coleman and Stones... cos we all know that we'll come out of any such contra type deal with them smelling of roses and us smelling like the Analfield pi55stones.

The thought of Cleverley being used as a pawn to snatch any of the above three away from us is too painful to comprehend.

Please El Bob, surely you can identify players who offer more, much more, light years more than Tom (not so) Cleverley will ever do.

Hes a link up man every team has one he threads play, i think there is a player there.

Wonder where Roberto is seeing him in this team. If he's brought to play in center I could live with that - every team needs a player that does a simple things, just to add balance and dictates tempo. He could give us options because he's more mobile than Barry and more eager to get forward than McCarthy.

I think the biggest problem with him is that people expects too much from him. He's not a creator, he's not a dribbler or shooter. He's just a solid player who can hold up play, redistribute the ball and keep things simple. Sometimes you need players like him to kill the game off or slow things down.

Tom also undedstands what Martinez wants to do, they are both fans of passing the ball around. Plus he got a lot to prove and he will be hungry for success. Martinez is a massive fan of tom and spoke out in defence of him. This rumour got legs. He more mobile then Barry and Osman and Gibson for starters.

This player seems to split opinion.

Earlier we had folk saying he's unspectacular but keeps things moving. Surely that's what we've needed most of this season, as a lot of the time we've been pedestrian.

Obviously he's not Messi, but is he that bad? Sensible responses please.

A noble plea, but I think this thread has set out its stall. Personally, I think if there's anywhere on the field we can afford to just get freebie for squad depth, it's the central midfield area. I think McCarthy, Besic, Barkley, Gibson (when fit) and Barry(when not playing 270 minutes a week) can all do a good job there. If we're going to spend money, I would prefer it spent on a goalkeeper, a centre-back and a winger, in that order.

Spot on, he can be relied on, can keep the ball, comfortable on the ball, can pass, bags of engery, he better then delph at villa. Osman is 33, barry is 32, Gibson body is rubbish. He will be on a free, already settled in Cheshire. Alot to prove so will be hungry. Him and Lennon will be a good start to the transfer window in my eyes. He reminds me of Henderson but better

What's the big risk on a free?

May be slightly uninspiring, but he's 25 and got a lot of experience already.

May surprise the doubters. If he fails we'll make a profit on him anyway.

Howard passes to Jagielka, who passes to Cleverly, who passes to McCarthy, who passes to Coleman, who passes to McGeady, who passes to Coleman, who passes to Cleverly, who passes to Baines, who passes to Jagielka who gets caught in posession as the opposition press us and we concede a goal.

Can't see Cleverly doing anything other than joining in with the pedestrain passing which hamstrung us so much this season.

Laughing at people who think he'd be an upgrade on Osman. He might not fall over when an opponent breathes on him but he has none of the intelligence, quick feet or incisevness that Osman has.

He's a bog standard average PL player who can play 200 simple passes a game and run around lots.

Think @LinekersLegs has been scouting the boy the last few games, think she will have some good things to say about him.
Think he is having a good game against Spurs, lots of decent forward passes for players to run onto and working hard in defence. Not claiming he is the best midfielder in the world like but if he could replicate these past few performances for us he'd be a good free signing.

Tbh the whole Villa team look completely different under Sherwood - he's making a complete fool of me as I don't rate him much as a manger.

I dont think hes a bad Manager, hes certainly not good and is defo 100% a prize bellend, but he can gee up a team to his credit.

As for Cleverley, im actually warming to the idea, makes loads of sense considering that Gibson is basically goosed and Barry is certainly not getting younger, meh, I feel sick for admitting that.

Bet he's devastated.

I'd defo still have Cleverley though.
