Tom Cleverley

Think he's been really good whenever he's played. Probably the best partner for Baines we have on the left, given Pienaar's vanishing act.

Just been very unlucky with injuries.

I thought it was good to have him on the left with Baines, IMO deffo helped Baines.

He has a real eye for a pass and always wants to keep the ball moving, usually forwards too. The only other CM we have that does that is Gibson who is never available. Assuming Cleverley can avoid recurring injuries he'll be a very useful squad player even if he's not the most exciting or the first name on the team sheet. If we sort our season out and have European football next year then he'll get a lot of game time. Also whilst he's not the answer at LM he'd be my first choice in the current squad.

Thought Baines played far better in the second half to be honest

Osman on the left isn't bad either. Just need a creative midfielder rather than a forward on the left to get the best out of Baines. But sadly Ossie's a bit old now whereas Cleverley is a good age.

watching anyone else play the role makes you realise what a rare breed of player Pienaar was

Said exactly the same last night. Cleverley did it well, and Osman as well to an extent. But Pienaar was so clever off the ball. The pockets of space are there for all to see, but none of our players accept Pienaar seem to be able to pop into them. Shame.

Pienaar was a genuine and very good link up man, brave in possession, could play around corners, he also had the pace, energy and discipline to do that job on the wing. Like you say he could move into the center and help build moves and also always seemed to be in the right spot whenever baines had the ball, considering how little he cost, he is so difficult to replace.

One of the only players I've seen since that looks capable of replicating that role is Bonaventura at Milan - and I'd love us to make a move for him. Unfortuantely, he's pretty much the main man their at the moment so can't see it happening.

Took the football in this club to a completely different level.

Saw someone in here suggest Kilbane would have played left wing in the best Moyes XI across his eleven years. I nearly cried.

Pienaar could be a right snide tackler as well as having the ability to draw a foul at a wonderful position or at a time when the momentum of the game was in danger of turning against us - very clever player.
