Tom Cleverley

He understands the game, where to be, his role, when to press.

That left hand side is his to lose atm.

Him and Oviedo seem to have a good partnership. I just wish he had struck that partnership with BAINES who, whilst in some patchy form atm, is the better player.

Again though, it is Oviedos place to lose now.

Competition is great eh?

Edit.

I think I have disposed of illusions today, but, more importantly, it is dinner time and I intend to watch yesterday's 20-minute highlights of Cleverly and Lennon inspiring our glorious blue.
By the way, I have corrected your grammar. Hi Ho
I have no pretences that my spelling or grammar is perfect, but I do try my best. Thanks however for your efforts to improve this.

Do enjoy your dinner, sir. I will eagerly await you pointing out which of my points about Tom Cleverley are untrue, in your own time.
If I am completely and utterley wrong, I am sure you will be able to show me this with much ease.

So how much do people think Cleverley would be worth in the transfer market? What calibre of club would be after him if he was put up for sale?

I think the answers to these questions are telling. He is by no means crap, but he is nowhere near a hot commodity either. We will need a better standard of player if we actually want to achieve something.
So was the question rhetorical about his value?
Personally I think if his confidence grows in the way it has been then he'll be as valuable as any English midfielder and we would be stupid to sell him. Not many midfielders are both versatile and classy.
He's showing that his touch is as good as anyone else we have on our books, passing is sharp and clever, his movement is excellent, his work off the ball is good, his tackling is clean and his finishing looks dangerous.
If that's not the standard we want then not sure what is.

Didn't villa offer Utd 8 mil. You' get good money for him

But short of Real Madrid, which successful teams have galatico's in every position?

It is a team game and how a player fits in with the team is the key part - Angel di Maria is a superb player, which he is showing at PSG, but he was awful at United. Pienaar has been great for us but poor at Spurs and Dortmund.

It is still early in Cleverley's Everton career and he's had a couple of nasty injuries. Personally think when fit he has shown some good promise but time will tell how things work out, just surprised some people seem to have made their minds up he isn't good enough so soon.
You are absolutely right, RM had him at Wigan prior to his United breakthrough, he knows exactly what he has to offer, Ferguson certainly liked him, but did he ever do their, bet he was a poor manager

Bang average player. Played well yesterday though, which is a good sign, and had a few good games at start of the season.
However everything he does, and every attribute he has is 4/10. Specialist in nothing. He is the new Osman. Can only ever be a squad player. He hides from the ball when he is playing poor. 4/10 in everything.

This is the Tom Cleverley thread

Nothing personal my friend just think you are on the wrong side of the river on this occasion.
If I insulted you I apologise.
At my age I care about very few things and Everton is one of them.

Basically the upgraded Osman. Maybe not quite as good on the ball but has the ability to play long passes and gets stuck in brilliantly. Maybe not defensively disciplined enough to be a great defensive midfielder, but he knows how to put a tackle in.

Brilliant signing on a bosman and mixes quality with endeavour, like all good Everton players do.

:zzz::zzz::zzz::zzz::zzz::zzz::zzz::zzz::zzz::zzz:

Sorry but surely if everything he does is 4 out of 10 he would never have any decent games...truly one of the worst posts i've read on here and that's saying something.

Not insulted at all mate. GOT would be a boring place if everyone agreed.

I've made my points in numerous posts on this thread about Tom Cleverley and what I perceive to be his limitations. The usual retorts to my posts are as vague as yours are. e.g If you can't see what he offers then you don't understand what makes a good footballer.
The more detailed posts in TC's favour tend to offer a number of bland characteristics that he possesses. eg. workrate, tidy, moves the ball quickly. My belief is that these qualities are not good enough for a starting player at Everton. He is apparantly the no 1 choice in that left hand spot at present, but that is more down to the other options available as opposed to him being a very good footballer.

Do you/anyone honestly believe that a fit, motivated Mirallas is inferior to Tom Cleverley?

Isn't 5/10 bang average? And if he was 4/10 in everything he would have wildly above average consistency!

Agree he is a confidence player and he can fade quite badly from games when things aren't go well although think Mirallas can exhibit the same issue although for different reasons.

However believe he shows excellent awareness of other players and movement into space, good in both short and long passes and maintaining a fast tempo, along with high workrate and decent (although not spectacular) tackles. His shooting is weird, he strikes the ball well and hard but, although often on target, it seems to be in areas the keeper finds easy to save. Not great in the air. Think he can most definitely be a starter in the left midfield position especially given Martinez's preference not to play two wingers.

So basically agree with about 4/10 of your post ;)
