Young blue giving his all, [Poor language removed] get behind the lad you gang of wools

He is giving his all but we know we can get better. He is not yet of the standard we need (as a few more) but we certainly need better. Think Gomes may take his place and if not we will have incoming in Jan. He could be of a good standard in future but not currently.

Tom probably has the most diverse comments on him than any of our players . Here’s a bit from Paul McNamara on our site. Obviously there’s a bias here, but it’s worth a read for those unable to see why he’s in the current team and what others see in him :

Captain Courageous

Nine full internationals in Everton’s line-up at Leicester. Tom Davies was one of the odd men out. He was also the youngest member of the side – Everton’s starting XI had an average age of 24.7, equalling their own record for the youngest sent out in the Premier League this term.
H
Yet Davies was named captain for the third top-flight match on the spin. This is a mighty responsibility conferred on the midfielder, scarcely three months past his 20th birthday. And he wears it lightly.

Davies performed with real bravery here. Not in the traditional sense of the word – although he is never found wanting when the tackles are flying. He showed a desire to get on the ball, unafraid to show for teammates in tight areas and with opponents snapping at his heels.

Davies’s passing was consistently ambitious. He visibly relished the view when he lifted his head above the midfield scrum. There in his eyeline were Everton’s front four, dashing forward into space, providing angles and openings to unzip Leicester.

One pass inside left-back Ben Chilwell into the progressive run of Jonjoe Kenny – the other non-full international in the side but, in common with Davies, at the coalface of England Under-21s’ bid for Euro 2019 success – was exquisite in its execution, the timing and weighting of Davies’s delivery absolutely faultless.

That was one of 21 accurate passes Davies struck in Leicester territory, a fabulous return for a player charged with occupying a deeper area of the field, protecting his centre-halves and plugging areas vacated by raiding full-backs Kenny and Lucas Digne.

Davies recovered possession for his side on seven occasions. He entered seven duels and won six of them.

This was Davies’s 44th Premier League start, his 65th top-flight appearance in all and the 78th time he has played for Everton in total.

He is learning and adapting all the while. Davies can report for Under-21 duty with a spring in his step, fresh from advancing another piece of compelling evidence to support the suspicion that this is a cracking footballer who has the tools to improve even further.

Its obvious he is getting better all the time for us into football being a team game. Comes down to his game is not always being pretty flair stuff. Still reckon he is responding well, probably the most to what Silva is installing into the squad, hence the captaincy.

We can nitpick Tom all day, talk about how he's not this or that. He's certainly not one of our best players in the Starting XI, but he's not terrible either.

The way I see it, big picture, it looks like Silva recognizes that in order to form some continuity and build for the future (while still playing for today) he is playing Tom to get him valuable experience that'll pay dividends for us 2-3 years down the road. In order to feel comfortable doing this this, he must see that Tom has the tools to develop into the box to box we crave.

We should support the lad as he embarks on that journey.

I think the thing is with Tom, he takes risks with forward passes, it would be much easier to just play it sideways all the time and never take a risk, never misplace a pass. Sometimes his forward passes are intercepted and we get a groan from the crowd. People need to chill, the lad has talent. The only thing is once Gomes is fit, he may not be first choice in his position anymore.

Tom Davies is the only one of our young English players who I see a long and successful Everton career ahead. I have very few doubts about that. I'm a big fan.

Yet he's the one given by far the most stick. The Everton Way these days.

And the same clowns constantly moaning at him and having a meltdown every time he's selected, are the same people who would be booing Schneiderlein and having a meltdown if he was selected instead.

Nah they’re the same clowns who gave Schneiderlin a standing ovation after one game of not being terrible after a season where he was basically unprofessional, yet for Davies who has far less pedigree and experience they have nothing but ridiculous criticism.

I think it's fair to say that our two weakest links in the starting lineup are Davies and Kenny. Having said that, it's a bit unfair to say they don't have a future as they have been decent considering their ages.

Kenny consistently plays some wonderful passes and crosses. Defensively, he isn't there yet, and he rushes plenty of clearances under pressure. When it boils down to it though, Kenny is a footballer, but he may not have the ability to be a long-term starting full back. Either way, he is an excellent backup and he definitely brings some play-making ability to the table.

Tom is a bit unfortunate. He has been thrown into a position where he has a ton of responsibility on both sides of the ball. He has to keep it moving offensively, and he has to work his arse off on both sides of the pitch. Younger players are often given a freeish role where they can learn the game on the job. Tom is truly being thrown into the deep end. I think he has done alright things considered, and it amazes me the abuse he gets. Our team is obviously better with him in it- at least until we see what our boy Andre has in his locker or we bring in a star.

Until one of Schneiderlin Gueye or McCarthy can learn to control our attacking game with forward passing then Davies will continue to start. The record without him in the team is woeful. If we play Gueye and Schneiderlin you may as well take Siggurdson off too because he won’t be seeing the ball.

Silva is doing a lot of things right and quickly binning Schneiderlin in favour of Davies has improved Gueye’s and Siggurdson’s games too.
