I can only see there being one spot available. City United Liverpool are a class above. That leaves Chelsea Spurs Leicester us and maybe Villa fighting it out. I’d put us in that order of likelihood as well.

There’s a huge difference though between spending the whole season in the bottom half then winning some games to scrape into 7th than being in the top 6 most of the season and finishing 7th. It will be good for this group of players to be in a race for fourth at least this season. Even City lost out in the race a few times before they cracked it.

Bottom 6 if they continue like last night.

I still think they will grind out a few results and be in the top 8. Just hoping we can finish top 6. I think top 4 is too much for them (I will happily be proved wrong).

We need to sign more players and get rid of the dross

No matter how disappointing last night was we are still a better team than last season. Carlo is improving us bit by bit. No manager ever does it straight away.

We’re still a typical mid table club. Players can’t hack the responsibility and don’t turn up when we have the chance to push on. If we don’t strengthen in January we’ll be lucky if we get Europa League football.

Carlo will be gone next season without Europe

Now go and change your undies lad

As individuals we are miles behind Spurs and Chelsea, and as a team with a set way of playing, we look behind Leicester, Wolves and Southampton to me. (Arguably Leeds and Villa too).

Yet we are still 4th as we’ve nicked tight games. We’ll need new players or a lot of luck to stay in that area.

Yes any away win is great, but come on mate if you found that performance acceptable against the worst team in the league by a country mile acceptable, then you have low expectations.

I agree with this. We are basically a team with some very good athletes who are excellent at stifling teams and nicking a win by a set piece.

But when it comes to the onus being on us to break down the opposition we are limited. Of course having digne back will help and james is not fully fit and needs game time. Which is why people were saying at the start of the season that we need all our best 11 fit if we want to achieve Europe.

Some won't agree but considering our strengths, I believe we would do better at home to a team like city than we would against a team like west ham. The next stage is to add quality in the right areas. Richarlison not being at it this season is a big worry and he may need some competition to up his game
