My view from the away section of WHL.
Howard - 6. Some question with a goal. But ok all the game.
Coleman - 6. Same as Howard. Played good but surely made a mistake with a goal.
Jagielka - 7. Solid.
Distin - 6. He did ok.
Baines - 7. Was dangerous as usual.
Osman - 6. Up and down. Some fantastic touches and some shocking mistakes, but overalls did a good job.
Barry - 6. He can play better, I am sure.
McCarthy - 6. Not bad.
Mirallas - 6. Centre forward is not for him.
Pienaar - 6. His substitution was a mistake IMO.
Naismith - 5. When he played on the left, it was shocking.

Deulofeu - 7. Looked dangerous every time when he was with the ball.
Barkley - 4. No comments.
McGeady - 5. I still think he is not good enough for our club.

Martinez - 5. So many options with a subs and blew it away. Wrong subs and too late.
EVERTON - 6. Very good first half and overage second. Still don't deserved to lose.

Away fans - 9. Singing all the game, very good support.

P.S. I ve visited four games. 2 wins (Stevenage and Villa) and 2 defeats (spurs and site). Will be at the Palace game and then will fly back to Russia. I thought that we will make more of this games but I was wrong.

Not sure how Dela warrants a 7, and Naismith a 5.

My ratings and reasonings:

Howard - 7 - Nothing to do all game, unlucky with the goal, just a quality finish at pace
Coleman - 6 - Bit of a nothing game and poor for the goal
Jagielka - 6 - Awful to fall asleep like that on the free kick but otherwise a solid game
Distin - 7 - Not as much at fault being the left-sided centre back, but impressed during the 90 mins
Baines - 7 - Looked quite threatening, especially when you consider Pienaar had an off day
Barry - 6 - Bit of a nothing performance and some wayward passing
McCarthy - 7 - Put himself about well and impressed yet again with his energy and tenacity
Osman - 6 - First half good, one great effort followed by a few very poor ones, faded badly
Pienaar - 6 - Some nice touches but can't help but feel he's on his way out as a top performance based on this season
Mirallas - 5 - Poor game very poor decision-making, in particular that run when he had four opportunities to pass it, ffs
Naismith - 6 - Same-ish as Osman, good first half very poor second. Just taking him off instead of shifting him to the wing!

-
Barkley - 5 - Did he even touch the ball?
Deulofeu - 5 - No influence on the game
McGeady - 5 - Same as above
-
Martinez - 4 - Why put a massive striker on the bench if you're not going to use him? Infuriating doesn't even come close, and subs far too late.

Hope you get to see us smash palace mate to give a good end to your trip, btw where abouts in russia you from?

Thought Mirallas was poor today. Nobody lit the place up like but he stuck out to me as particularly poor, probably because I expected a lot of him.

One of those games. Got into many good positions but final ball was either wrong or we didn't get the break. Spurs improved second half and we didn't have the muscle up front. I wondered why we didn't bring on Traore. Not a disaster to lose because I still think we will finish ahead of Spuds and Utd, but 4th is out of reach....which it has been since we started getting loads of injuries. The good thing is that we pretty much have everyone back now apart from Lukaku and Traore should hopefully start next game.

Nice to see Jamie Carragher sticking up for Everton on SSN

"Everton were very unlucky and will be very disappointed with the result," said Carragher on Sky Sports.

"It was quick thinking from Kyle Walker - that free kick was five yards out in the wrong position, you could say they got an unfair advantage because they went on to score but when you take a free-kick back you get away with it.

"If you took the free kick five yards forward then I think you would be in trouble. But Jagielka and Distin are just not watching the ball - they are experienced defenders and you are told as a kid never to switch off.

"Credit to Walker for seeing it and Adebayor - well that was Drogba-like and you want to see more of that type of thing from him; using his strength and power."

Carragher also believes that Everton should have got a penalty after Etienne Capoue caught Seamus Coleman in stoppage time, but referee Mark Clattenburg was unmoved.

"That was a penalty, Capoue stuck his leg out, Coleman's got there first and is brought down. It is a blatant penalty.

"Everton were very unlucky - never mind the penalty claim but they were dominant throughout; Spurs should get a massive lift from this game -they have not played well but have beaten one of their rivals."

Everton being 'unlucky' is not a new phenomenon ...

totally agree mate. I thought he was excellent for nigh on 60 minutes today. Made excellent runs, kept it simple with the ball, created a couple of openings. Looked awful once he got switched left but thats the managers fault not his. Our problem isn't the strikers, its the bloody midfield fannying around with it, under hitting, over hitting passes, shooting when it aint on, not shooting when its on. Our decision in the final 3rd is poor. Last week Nais got put through and bang, goal. We don't create enough for the front men to begin with. Mirallas, 4-5 times on that run he could have put Nais through. Thats why we got beat because of crap decisions like that. Osman was no where near as bad as folk make out, should have got at least a goal plus again didn't have killer pass. We need a quality am who can thread balls through an eye of a needle and then we will put games to bed swiftly.

With the goal in sight, Mirallas does not pass. It is not in his footballing 'make up'. Very annoying at times (as I'm sure Lukaku will attest )

Why put a goalie on the bench if you're not going to use him?

Completely different. Anything could happen to your first choice keeper and you're severely handicapped if an outfield player has to go in as you've no emergency keeper on the bench.

We had an emergency today; we desperately needed a goal and so there could have been no bigger reason to throw on a striker if he was able to play.

But I am sure you realise it's completely different and are just popcorning.

Very frustrated that we didnt get something from the game today. It seems to be a flaw in Mirallas game where he can be a bit greedy by not playing the ball to a player in a better position. If he played Naismith in he would have been clean through and likely would have scored. We passed the ball around well enough but had nothing up top to put the ball in the net or hold it up. I thought we should have had a penalty for the tackle on Coleman but we never seem to get those type of fouls called in our favour. I wonder if the roles was reversed would the ref have given the penalty to Spurs.

I agree with a lot of the thoughts that we should not have sold Jelavic because of our lack of striking options. One thing we could not afford after selling him was an injury to Lukaku. It looks like the new lad was not fully fit today to come on so why was he on the bench in the first place. Lets hope we can get back on track against Palace with the returning injured guys getting sharper.

TURN AND FACE

TURN AND FOOKING FACE

Its something thats shouted on every amatuer footy pitch in the country.

So why did we ignore the absolute basics?

That was really quite awful. We had our new striker on the bench and he wasnt used when we were desperate for a goal.

Pathetic if you ask me.
