...12 months ago there was rumour upon rumour regarding Barkley but his performances last season mean there appears no interest or links this time around. I wonder after his much better start if some of the big boys will start making noises in the last few weeks of the window. I don't for one minute think he'll go but the vultures might start hovering again.

He's had a terrible season and now he's had two good days... it would take a LOT more to attract a top club. If he plays like this week in, week out, we might have a few nervy moments next summer though.

If we play like we did consistently, we'll have a few nervy moments with quite a few of our players.

That's perfect then mate. I asked this very same question yesterday ( is Yarmolenko a Pienaar type player who knits things together, cuts in, picks a pass, retains possession ) and if he is then imo that's exactly the type of player we need.

A fit Pienaar 3 years younger than he is now and we would be absolutely on the money imo. All about getting the blend and balance spot on, something Pienaar has given us for years and it's no surprise to see our form decline at the same rate Pienaar's fitness did and Martinez hasn't replaced him still.
I wouldn't really compare Yarmalenko to pienaar based on what I've seen. I think he's a far better player with a lot more end product but they're completely different.

No chance we are in for Yarmolenko even less chance Elstone would just tell you average Joe fan who we are trying to sign.

Although I would love to sign him to pipe Stoke's fans down who were saying he would choose them over us. Would love us to give them a humbling tonking on the grounds of what we just gave Southampton.

Not a fan of song, went seriously of the boil second half of last year, not what we need.
As said before probably just an agent trying to force someone's hand by making up links

Pienaar has always been quite slow but great with his feet and of course threading balls through. His ball retention abilities is what made our attacks down that flank so effective with Baines, too.

Yarmolenko looks like more fleet-footed and powerful (and generally: terrifyingly ace), which offers something different, indeed. Bit of a shame that Pienaar's apparent demise has coincided with the arrival of a true slot-master at the club in the form of Lukaku - but things change and even though Baines showed no sign of slowing up before his injury maybe it's time to build on a new axis of pain, based on speed/raw henchness...

...slipping into hyperbole in the last part there but, in short, I agree a like-for-like 'peak-Pienaar' would be awesome, but the time will come around/may have come anyway to rely on other strengths in our team for the way we set-up in attack. Challenge is incorporating the fullbacks into this, probably.

Agree that a 'new Pienaar' is what we are missing badly. In Martinez's first season, Pienaar did so much donkey work of keeping the ball moving at pace to allow others to do the damage in attack. I recall the home game v Norwich and his injury coincided with the Canaries taking control of the game for the final 25mins. His injury hit season, not to mention other key players out, forced us to become disjointed, lose confidence and ultimately play turgid football. We need someone who can open the field up, hopefully we can find that player in the next 2 weeks.

Why's there no chance?

Being fair to Barkley he suffered a potential career threatening injury as a young lad. That certainly takes the edge out of full blooded tackling as he will always be weary of injury.

I hope we sign Yarmalenko, he would make us stronger in attack.
I was always told as a kid if you go in half hearted you'll get hurt. He does need to improve that side of his game, he sprints at the fella with the ball and then slows down when he gets close. He's still boss.

Can't see us getting him tbf mate. I Would love him though
