Yes but Chelsea rate him very highly and we aren't suppose to be a selling club and want champions league. Chelsea are just trying to bully us, every player has their price even if there at City,Chelsea Real Madrid so if we sell it needs to be a riduculas amount.

I agree. But will Stones make us into a Champions League squad on his current ability? This is the same defender who started most games last year, when we shipped goal after goal.

Chelsea think he's a top defender, but they want him on the bench.

Turning down £40m for Stones would be madness in my opinion. I think he's class but he's gonna end there and we could improve the team as a whole. I'm not saying I want to sell but I could understand from a business view if we do.

This is more than business... cave in this season and the signalls it aends out will impact us for years. ..you might as well ask them are they interested in rom , barks as well

So you would rather have Williams? Wait a year and Stones could be sold for huuge money. Personally I hate Chelsea. Those racist pieces of crap don't deserve him. He should go to city who have more money anyways.

I see John Stones still as a player of much potential, but that's it. He plays the ball fantastically and is in with Martinez's pass it around style - however how often does he get turned out by an average player (you don't need to look far for an answer, Watford is the most recent).

To reject £30,000,000, just to prove that we are not a "selling club" would be stupid.

Would Stones walk into the Chelsea squad? I don't think so.

On his current ability probably not, but the team needs to grow together and taking out Stones is taking out a key figure so we would be back to square one in that department. A lot of our players last season most of the time we dire Barkley for example but he's come out this season all guns blazing, we needs the core of this team to stay together and buy to fill in areas not so good with quality players. So the owners need to get spending.

Ramblings of a skeptical Evertonian:

We will sell stones days before the transfer window close and buy Williams as only replacement. Instead of Yarmolenko we will buy Huddlestone and Song for a combined discount price of 6m. Christ sake Everton are the thrift shop team.
Wow. Love your optimism !!!

Yep you'd think so like. Says it all about the modern game that you can't take statements like that on face value with 100% certainty anymore, even though I am 90% sure Stones will be an Everton player for the rest of this season, barring Kenwright seeing pound signs and an enticing gap in Other Operating Costs.

I just don't see Martinez making a comment like that before checking the board has his back.

I've said on the Stones thread that his figure is a lot closer to the 50m Mark. Ferdinand went to utd 13 years ago for 30m. Taking into account inflation and ridiculous recent transfers #scrawnygetfromacrossthepark, the quoted 30m for stones SHOULD NOT BE ENTERTAINED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES !!

Stones is going to be worth so much more this time next year. Another good season and then a good tournament for England at the Euros next summer.

Unless we get a ridiculous offer in, and I'm talking 45mill plus, we should reject everything.

United bought Rio Ferdinand for 32mill ... and that was back in 2002. This is 2015 and John Stones is going to become twice the player Ferdinand ever was. He could be worth £60 mill plus after next summer with the hike in prices for English players.

We shouldnt sell Stones, not now, not even for 35mill, unless it's a ridiculous offer.

Wow literally just said that myself. Good points
