The continued presence of Naismith, Osman, McGeady and, to a lesser degree, Barry are just as worrying for me as our apparent inability to strengthen.

This next 9 days are going to huge for our club and our current manager. I'm not sure which way it's going to go.

The pessimist in me says the 2 South Americans and Lennon, with all the aforementioned tosh staying - and getting plenty of playing time. That will simply be woeful.

Come on, Bobby - restore my faith in you!

Everton have spoken to Shakhtar Donetsk about play-maker Bernard after talks stalled with Andriy Yarmolenko.

Everton were ready to meet Yarmolenko's £17million release clause but negotiations with Dynamo Kiev became increasingly complicated with Roma also showing interest and Everton have decided to look at alternative options.

Manager Roberto Martinez is now targeting 22-year-old Brazil international Bernard, a former target for Arsenal, and hope to tie up a deal for the international before the close of the transfer window on September 1.

Everton are also discussing a switch for Uruguay striker Leandro Rodriguez from River Plate Montevideo

Everton are also discussing a move for Uruguay striker Leandro Rodriguez. The 22-year-old plays for River Plate Montevideo and has an Italian passport.

Rodriguez has scored 19 goals in 71 games and is seen as back-up for Arouna Kone and Romelu Lukaku.

River Plate coach Juan Ramon Carrasco told local radio station Sport890: 'Leandro Rodriguez is gone. The club told me of the offer from Everton. He deserves it.'

Cant believe i thought we would pull the yarm deal off (deep down new we wouldn't).
ffs we really are [Poor language removed] at transfers

And who the [Poor language removed] is bernard!

I'm struggling to understand why we have left our business so late, Martinez has known for some time now where he needs to strengthen, yet we are a week away from the window closing and we are still no nearer.

If we sign no one else then I think we have every right to ask questions.

I may be overstating it a bit but this next week could be the biggest in the clubs recent history in terms of holding onto our assets and strengthening with quality.
our cash flow is tight until we get tv money and a loan and that doesn't happen until late in the window and, yes, it's probably to save some money too
