If it comes down to Van Dijk or Jonny Evans I really really hope we choose Evans. Prefer neither of the two, but Van Dijk is woeful at defending.

Despite all the Van Dijk talk I can't recall one single article at any stage which said that we're interested in him. Which makes me think that we aren't.

Why mate? Just to sell them on when they're good enough to do something? Selling Stones confirms we're a selling club and that if any youngster plays well he will get a move to a 'big' club.

So the solution is to only buy players who aren't good enough to play anywhere else? That's a bit defeatist...

Really don't get it.

We've spent 4mil (excluding Mori) and yet we're linked with rejects from other teams from the EPL.. If other teams can spend several 10+ mil on players surely we have a similar amount of money to spend.. and with Stones going for 40mil we should have 50+mil to spend..

Why did we have to wait till theres only 5 days left to try and find bargains when we could have signed anyone 2 months ago..

All I want to do is monger doom until Kenwright gives us enough transfer prezzies to pacify me... but he's probably quivering under his bed right now instead of bullying someone for their finest through-ball merchant.

I'd like Van Dijk but all these mooted CB options are probably a little way down the line with negotiations elsewhere at this point, is it characteristic of us to 'swoop in' on transfer dealings and steal in on a player? I read that VVD fella was going to Southampton. Is our plumage royal enough at this point to prove more attractive proposition than Southampton?

Or has it been besmirched by the negligence of Kenwrong... are we now just a scruffy pigeon.

Players don't want to come because we don't show any ambition to challenge for the top spots. Meanwhile Southampton were at least challenging for top 4 last season and look to have a good squad to go there again this season.

I do buy into Roberto's 'golden generation' ideal. Maybe we could see Browning and Galloway playing either side of Jagielka? It would kind of stick two fingers up to Mourinho to say "thanks for the £40m, but we've got another two coming off the production line who are going to be just as good anyway!"

To which Mourinho will say "whatever mate, I've got the next John Terry and he's going to be here for 12 years, £40m was a steal"

My big concern is if he spunks our budget on risky south American signings that are unproven.

Mori, Bernard and Rodriguez all have a bad feeling of flop about them and all together would cost around £20 million, that's a large amount of money for a club like us to risk.

A lot a people on here have been crying out for these type players South American players!!! When Martinez goes for them no one wants them I think mori and Rodriguez will do well a lot a potential as for Bernard a good player a lot off potential very small and will need to bulk up a bit
