Kone was a forward that Martinez had experience with that was available for a set, low fee. He knew would be happy being a backup striker and even then had outscored all our strikers in the the previous season in a team with less quality.

Kone may or may not have been good enough but we'll never really know what he would have been like if he hadn't got that bad injury in his 5th game for us.

Honestly the way people go on about his signing you'd think we'd spent Soldado or Torres money on him - his fee was paid for by selling Anichebe who has had his own fitness issues.

As much as it pains to mention his name, I think Couthino is what we are looking for. Someone who plays an advanced role in the middle of the pitch, can score, but more importantly supply killer passes to our goal scorers. The nearest we have to that is Osman and Ross. And I don't think either of those are good enough at that role tbh.

Presuming we stay in a 4231, the obvious lineup (ignoring keeper and back 4) is

Lukaku
LW Mirallas -- 10 Cleverley -- RW Deulofeu
Barkley -- McCarthy

With Naismith, Pienaar, Osman, Besic and Barry all on the bench, the lineup actually looks vaguely ok. Problem is, so many of the players named here are currently injured.

Our first 11 is grand but as you say our players never stay fit and the other issue is Martinez doesn't seem willing to play both Deulofeu and Mirallas.

and martinez wont play two wingers... which is a shame...
