Just a thought but maybe the interview when Marrinez switched from saying we wanted 3 players to 2 was a turning point. Maybe at that point we realised the centre half was going to cost more and we couldn't afford the standard of creative player the team needed so we settled on Lennon

I didn't say anything negative about Funes Mori - I said in my opinion Henry has never seen him play.

That's like throwing bricks at dogs tied to lampposts all day but saying, i didn't throw a brick at that jack russell tied on goodison road.

OK, imagine it was a business who have account managers.

You identify you need a new manager for a new account, but that highly rated guy named John from a rival company isn't available.

So you go, "oh well, let's not get any account manager for that account."

Doesn't make sense. Players are assets. Yarmolenko would have been an identified asset, who had qualities to fill an identified role.

But if you have identified the need for that role, you don't put all your eggs in one basket. No business would do that.

Everton seemingly did, or we missed out on three or four others - which would make us incompetent.

So after identifying a business need and failing to fill it, which will impact our business model for at the very least the next six months, we're either stupid, incompetent, or both.

That's what I said earlier on in the window. If we miss out on our one target we are incompetent. This is a results business. Excuses aren't good enough.

Liked this because I was getting a bit sick of you letting Martinez slide when you would have been giving Moyes all the grief in the world... at least be consistent when you demand it of others.

I've never contested the fact that Martinez isn't the creature of the board in the same way as Moyes was. I said that from day one: he wouldn't have been employed otherwise.

Fair points but we're not the only ones in this situation. Chelsea for all their wealth, put all their eggs in John Stones' basket it seems and they've ended up signing a dubious looking centre half for a couple of million.

Spurs and Arsenal fans are equally frustrated at their clubs dealings or lack of so we're not alone.

I know what other clubs have done or not done is nothing to do with us, but it is what it is and we've just got to get on with it.

They have, but those clubs already have active alternatives in their squad. They looked to strengthen in areas they have one or two players already - Giroud and Walcott for Arsenal, for example, and Cahill, Zouma and Terry for Chelsea.

We don't. We have Barkley and that's it for that role, and he's not the finished proven article in that role. One injury and we have a gaping hole there.

Down to Martinez not to have prioritized a playmaker. It's down to the board to have made him decide between a CB (also desperately needed) and a playmaker.

There should have been cash for both and then some.

I really hope Stones doesn't take a nosedive (from average defensive qualities to week in, week out glaring errors) or the decision to keep him will look like the balls up of the decade.

I'd have punted him as soon as Chelsea got near £30M. That cash plus the money spent would have reinvigorated the squad with quality.

Still, most wanted him kept, so the manager of even board cant be blamed for caving into that.

But it's widely accepted that we'd agreed the buyout fee for Yarmolenko and the reason the transfer didn't happen was because of the owners preference to keep him on a whim. That and the fact we've signed Mori and Lennon shows the funds were available, it was Martinez's reluctance to change targets that have prevented us getting a playmaker not the board underfunding him.

The Stones saga had nothing to do with this.
