Travel thread 3.0

Three Stag Do's this year. Dublin, Barcelona and Krakow. Any tips of places to avoid/definitely visit in Barca would be great.
In Barcelona, as in many Southern European cities, a lot of the decent local bars are too small to accommodate big stag and hen groups so you often end up in the Irish bars.

That said there are a couple of decent sized local bars in the centre - Marsella (absinthe a speciality), Ovella Negra (pool tables), Nevermind (rock music). If you are prepared to go a little out of town, the Ovella Negra has a second even bigger bar that is a bit like a bierkeller. This is also handy if you are going on to the Razzamataz (probably the best club in Barcelona).

These Irish pubs in the centre are good - Flaherty's, George Payne (as mentioned) and the Shamrock. There is also a good one by the Sagrada Familia cathedral called the Michael Collins.

In the day you should get to the beach - the Port Olímpic area is good with plenty of beach bars.

You could also walk up the Montjuïc hill from Plaça Espanya to see the old Olympic Stadium. Great views and on the way down you can go for a drink in the bar of the Olympic Diving Pool ( Piscina Municipal de Montjuïc) (the one where they took the iconic photos with the city in the background).

2 warnings. Avoid any bar or restaurant on the Ramblas itself. If you go 2 minutes in the side streets either side everything is much better. Watch out for pickpockets and mobile phone snatchers on scooters, particularly when you are drunk.

Hope you have a good one...

Thinking of joining the England travel supporters clubs. Potential trips to Naples, Valletta and Skopje which would be pretty cool. Downside is all the geezers that will be there supporting England. @barneygumble I think you've travelled with England in the past right?

Yeah mate.

I’m not doing Naples, as I’ve got a young son, and I don’t fancy getting into bother.

Got Malta, Scotland, Poland and Macedonia booked though.

You could be a little late in booking some, although Naples still available at about £120 return.

I had a negative opinion on England, but I’ve done some great trips now, Andorra was a particular highlight. Germany probably the worst cause it was just young kids (20-24) just being annoying, but you can take yourself away from it.

Surprisingly there’s more northern people than southern people too.

How can I book mate? The website I've been looking at says travel club hasn't opened yet? I might be looking in the wrong place.

What kind of bother are you expecting in Naples? From the police or opposition fans?

I said, even when it came to Everton, I’d never do Naples.

It’s notorious for trouble, who ever plays there. Even Leicester had trouble. Leicester!

So I’m swerving that, feel like Beer, unfamiliar City, notoriously dodgy city. I just don’t want to get involved in that.

It doesn’t go on sale til next week.

Every game you attend you get 2 “caps”, I think if you get to 12 caps, you’ll have a clear run at every game in the Euros.

As for Naples, every person I know who’s been there has had trouble, even non-football related. I’ve heard of stabbing, pickpocketing, muggings, and a few other things.

I just didn’t fancy it. Sometimes things are bigger than a game of football. Italian police, I’ve never had an issue with, had no issues in San Marino etc.. it’s just a hostile city.

Cheers mate. I might start booking some flights up already. Yeah my goal was to get easier tickets for the Euros, seeing as it'll be here in Germany. Have there been any places where you've seen trouble?

Naples is horrible, the only good thing about it was leaving it to go to Pompeii.
And the pizza is horrible.
lol

The bigger the crowd/game the more idiots.

Done some brilliant trips. I did the pair behind closed doors and they were good, Hungary and Poland.

The games which aren’t as “appealing”, the Andorra’s tend to have a proper football fan base behind it, because why on earth are you going to watch a 7-0 win, other than the love of football? We stayed in Barcelona and had a great time.

Malta we’ll get 5,000 tickets, although flights are already insane. We’re flying to Venice and changing.

Skopje, we’re flying via Copenhagen, and home via Charleroi. Skopje is a great city.

Love Italy as a whole, but I’d only go to Naples to go to Pompeii, it’s not my kind of trip feeling on edge the whole time, and I’ve been dodgy places, but Naples sounds like the worst.
