Love Italy as a whole, but I’d only go to Naples to go to Pompeii, it’s not my kind of trip feeling on edge the whole time, and I’ve been dodgy places, but Naples sounds like the worst.
Did Italy with my son, landed in Rome, train to Naples, Pompeii, Florence, Milan, Bergamo then back to Milan for the flight home. Lovely place to visit, Florence and Bergamo are beautiful.

Of all the places to visit in Italy I'd put it very low down on the list.
To visit Pompeii by train you had to change at Naples, otherwise for me there's not a lot of reasons to stop there.

Currently planning a trip to Munich for this year's Oktoberfest. Been to Germany once before but it's been 15 years.

I'm guessing it's pretty easy to visit some other spots via train? Will likely be there for about a week and a half and kind of want to check out another city or two if we can.

I know, again from Everton , Nuremberg isn’t far like an hour or so and I had a great time there . German trains are really good as well.

Im sure Austria , Salzburg maybe , is only a bit longer by train as well.

Otherwise I’m struggling

from Munich Switzerland is also not far. Amd northern Italy. Loads to see in Bavaria. In terms of nearby cities, apart from Nuremberg, it just depends on how far you’re willing to travel on the train. Heidelberg not too far away. Freiburg. Czech not far really. But depends on preferred length of journey

I’m going to Florence, Pisa and Genoa in a couple of weeks for a weekend with the other half, what she doesn’t know is that there’s footie on

Italy is a magnificent places. Didn’t rate Milan one bit though.

Loved Florence and pisa , unlike you and the other half went with about 15 drunken shaved headed blues but still managed to enjoy ourselves.

Milan wasn’t too bad , used to bring clobber back to sell !

Naples is ok for connection to Sorrento via ferry/hydrofoil, or the island of Capri.

Considering going to Lucca in May, either via Pisa or Florence, so I'll be intrigued to see how others rate them

Very easy to travel throughout Germany with the train. I used to live in Bamberg which I highly recommend visiting. Well-preserved medieval town which is a bit off the beaten track. Some great breweries and the home of Rauchbier!

Munich is a great little spot, just don’t stay by the station, it’s a bit grim.

From Munich, there’s some great spots, like Garmisch Partenkirtschen, and internal flights are even affordable.

Nuremberg for history is good, and a trip to the Black Forest is great too.
