Travel thread 3.0

Thanks for the tips y'all!

I never realized Nuremberg was so close, I'll have to check that town out for sure. And good point about the flights being cheap, I forget how affordable it is to travel Europe even by air.
On German rail if you book in advance from outside the country you sometimes get better deals than you would from booking within Germany, especially if you book in advance: https://www.bahn.com/

Edit: other sights in Bavaria include Neuschwanstein Castle and Bodensee

German rail is absolutely brilliant, rail travel across Europe is to be honest . Flights are cheap and easy but obviously with rail you remove the whole check in carry on . It’s whatever’s convenient to you but from your location if you’re happy to spend a bit of time travelling no reason you can’t see loads.

Personally , sad as it is , I find travelling part of the fun .

I'm a bit of a transportation nerd so I love the entire process. I remember visiting England last year and was amazed at how simple, convenient and fast is it to travel by rail. I figured that's how it is across Europe but good to know that the Germans have a good system too.

I'll be checking on this now, thanks!

If you are planning to travel around and especially if there are two or more of you, you should check out the Bayern Ticket (which allows free transport on local trains (not Inter-City services) for a full day for 27 Euros plus 9 Euros for each additional person.
Garmisch (and Mittenwald and Oberammergau) are on the Regio-Ticket Werdenfels which is even cheaper.
This line also continues into Austria to Seefeld (a popular ski and walking mountain resort) and Innsbruck (although here you have to get the slightly more expensive Werdenfels + Innsbruck ticket).
https://www.bahn.de/angebot/regio/bayern/regio-ticket-werdenfels (in German)
FlixBus also run cheap services from Munich Airport or the Munich bus station (ZOB) to various points of interest.

Added: there is also plenty to see just using the local S and U Bahn services in Munich (e.g. Andechs monastery (good beer) and the Ammersee lake; Freising (monastery and good beer); Starnberger See, Dachau).

Going Porto with mates in April, can’t wait, do love Portugal.
Is often colder than you think. Also don’t be tempted by street drugs. Safe though. Did a few of the cellar tours and ended up very messy. Really proud of this food francesinha which to me was basically made my a high student who didn’t have much food left.
Really want to explore more of northern Portugal.

Yeah expecting it to be jumper weather in early April still. Sampled the local street cuisine in Lisbon and won’t make that mistake again!!
