Travel thread 3.0

Bilbao is ace. Looking forward to the match tonight.

@JimmyJeffers i see what you mean now about the pintxos. Initially it was “where have you been all my life” but after about the 8th one it turns into stodge overload
Get up early tomorrow and wander round the old town. The locals get together and do all these mad dances and singing.
Me and my mate were on a come down from speed and nearly burst into tears.

Oh how joyous it is to share that thou hast made arrangements for a journey to the fair lands of Colombia this December! 'Tis a time for celebration and revelry, for the wondrous sights and sounds that shall be experienced. The merry atmosphere and warm hospitality of the people shall fill thy heart with delight.

The journey shall be a wondrous adventure, filled with new discoveries and merriment at every turn. The beauty of the landscape, the vibrant culture, and the rich history shall come alive before thy very eyes. Thou wilt be swept away by the lush greenery of the forests, the towering peaks of the mountains, and the sparkling waters of the seas.

In this land of milk and honey, thou wilt partake of the finest delicacies and bask in the warmth of the sun. Thy spirit shall be lifted by the music and dance of the people, and thou shalt make memories that shalt last a lifetime.

'Tis a time for thee to cast aside the troubles of the world and embrace the beauty of this land, to be immersed in its culture and revel in its splendor. So let us raise a glass to this forthcoming journey, for 'tis a time for us to bask in the glory of Colombia.

Bilbao is great, but San Seb is cool too. If you have time do both, the journeys between places around there are stunning. The terrain is so unlike what you expect from Spain.

San Seb fairly expensive from what I've heard? I see there's a bus that's just over an hour, could do that. Although don't want to dilute both just for the sake of squeezing them in.

San Seb is deffo on my future list too. Bilbao was great I thought. Was there 2 days in total and was able to fit in a footie match and Athletic Bilbao museum, old town and food market, Guggenheim and surroundings, funicular railway, Getxo and Puente de Vizcaya. Mostly walkable apart from Getxo.

Was there with my Dad who's 72 so didn't see what the nightlife is like but I had the impression it can get pretty lively

Accommodation can be expensive but we rented a two bedroom apartment with a big living/dining room which was cheaper than 2 hotel rooms in the middle of July, beer and food was reasonably priced. We (4 fifty-odd year old blokes) stayed 3 nights and I was thinking everything was a bit too nice by the end , Bilbao was a bit more earthy, for want of a better expression.

Yeah, accom in San Seb was defo a bit pricey. We had to book a little hotel room 15 mins walk away from the sea front to get a decent price, whereas in Bilbao we were able to find a decent room right around the corner from San Mames (coincidink I swear!) for the same/less.

Yeah, I would say this is a pretty could description. SS obviously a very popular, bit touristy, seaside town, Bilbao I would think is more full of locals (although obvs plenty for tourists etc). Prob more RS in San and Toffees in Bilbao! :D

Going on a trip for her 50 th, New York for 3 Nights and Barbados for 8, straight from New York,
Major holiday experience for us and something that we’ve never done before and is a one off,
We’ll be traditional tourists for New York, question is how much spends do you reckon for that leg of the journey ?

Off to Japan for eight days in May, flying in and out of Tokyo. Never been before, and nothing as yet booked on the ground apart from the first two nights in Tokyo. Any tips for what to see and do greatly appreciated!

Could easily do 80 days straight in Tokyo let alone 8.

At the very least Shibuya, Ginza, Harajuku, Roppongi and Omotesando are worth checking out online first...then Akiharbara for gadgets if thats your thing.

Day trip to Tokyo Disneyland + another to Yokohama...

Kin amazing city and country. I need to get back before too long. I've only seen Kyoto, Tokyo and Osaka, but all three places immense. One thing I can tell you NOT to do is go up the Tokyo Skytree. I'm a massive fan of skyscrapers and try to get up as many as possible, but this place is ridiculous if you're planning on taking pictures from up the top. The layout is all wrong and it's virtually impossible to get a decent shot. Don't waste your money! Can echo most of what @Zatara says above in terms of areas to look at.
