Travel thread 3.0

Off to Japan for eight days in May, flying in and out of Tokyo. Never been before, and nothing as yet booked on the ground apart from the first two nights in Tokyo. Any tips for what to see and do greatly appreciated!
Are you staying in Tokyo only or moving around a bit? I really liked Hiroshima. The city was interesting, and the region around had a lot to see/do too. Kyoto was interesting too but very touristy.

Anyone know anything about Salamanca (Spain)...some good pubs/restaurants? My good friend is moving there for 3 months and I'm likely to visit, but I told him I'd ask here, in case anyone knew some nice places to eat/drink or things to do.
Only been there once and was years ago. Very nice place from what I remember. Was mad hot.
Remember getting a 2-3 hour train to Toledo which is an amazing place.

An amazing country to visit. Used to work for a Japanese company and visit Osaka every other year. It’s helpful to have a Suica card for subway, convenience stores, etc in Tokyo
Highlights for me were:
Himeji Castle
Eating/wandering around in Osaka
Ueno Park/Tokyo National Museum

Kyoto (really enjoyed the bamboo grove and nearby shrine/garden)—such a beautiful city to explore, some great hikes as well. You can probably spend 2-3 days just in Kyoto if you wanted to

It’s very touristy but I really enjoyed visiting the Tokyo Tower at night

Open to suggestions. We were thinking maybe four-five days in Disneyland and a few days elsewhere. The Fuji/Hakone area looks fantastic and we enjoy getting out of the city and doing a bit of exploring in natural areas so we considered that for a couple of days.

I definitely regret not making it to Hakone.
Staying at a ryokan there would be right up my street

Considering Hiroshima. How many nights did you stay there? From having a google, would I be right that it's around three and a half hours by bullet train from Tokyo?

I think we only spent 2 nights there. Spent 1 day in the city, mostly round all the memorial stuff. The other day we went to that floating shrine, can't remember what it was called but it's quite a well known landmark. I can remember having the feeling that we should've spent more time in that region as there were 1 or 2 other things that seemed interesting. A big sake distillery for example. I can remember it not being a long trip from Tokyo. I'll try to find out the exact journey time.
