Travel thread 3.0

Business trip to Chicago next month but taking 2-3 days for myself. Any recommendations?
I had a good night out around Wrigleyville bar hopping. Also watched the game v Arsenal in Aj Hudsons bar with some fellow blues.

Had a good deep dish pizza, may have been in Giordanos thats one of the top rated on trip advisor.

Walk around downtown, i think i visted Millenium Park and some other attractions downtown.

Just arrived in Zhuhai, China for three months. First time in China, really good first impressions, apart from the mosquitos, staying at a place with lots of lakes and small ponds.
Fantastic country. Hope you'll be doing plenty of travelling? Highly recommend Chengdu, Xi'an and Chongqing (all relatively close to each other too - well, a few hours on the train either side of Chengdu). So many more places I want to visit in China though, what a place. And the best food too.

Thanks for the recommendations. Visited Guangzhou at the weekend, which is like Manhattan in places but then has a beautiful old part too. Great atmosphere along the embankment in the evening, people enjoying themselves: dancing, exercising, having picnics, it felt really laid back and safe.
Going to Chengdu for a few days soon, then Wuhan.

A bargain.

Anybody been to any part of Norway?
Always been a country I have wanted to visit and would love some recommendations.
Would love to visit Svalbard not sure that is a family friendly place though.

Off for a 10 day road trip to Scotland for my first time in my (almost converted) van. Staying in a place called Tyndrum for the first 3 nights then driving to the trossachs, Glencoe and Fort William. Any other suggestions for great places to visit would be welcomed. Primarily staying up the west coast though so sadly no Edinburgh this time. Leaving here Friday morning for a lovely 6 and a half hour drive.

Paulie Gee's or Giordano's for Pizza.
Lou Malnati's is another good gaff if you like meat sandwiches!
Magnificent Mile has some incredible bars as well.
We also took in a Bulls game when we were there, not really my thing basketball but was still a good spectacle.
We did a gangster tour as well, really good.

Is a great time of year to visit. Stayed in a nice campsite near Arisaig last time I was up that way.

Art Institute, if you like Art (the Marc Chagall stained glass is lovely), and a walk around Milennium park (and crown fountain). If you like jazz and are adventurous, The Green Mill way up on the North Side is amazing. A very touristy thing to do, but worth it for at least one drink is the Signature Lounge on the 96th floor of the John Hancock building. Even for someone who grew up in Chicagoland, I will still do this when I'm back...stunning views (though always crowded). Cue up around 4:30 for 5pm entry to The Violet Hour, if you are a boozer. The original Billy Goat Tavern (on lower Michigan Ave), though now hypermarketed, still feels authentic (assuming it hasn't change since I was last there 15 yrs ago). My friend used to manage a great boozer called the California Clipper...quite a bit west of the loop, but pretty awesome.

Do NOT listen to any pizza opinions, except for the following: Go to Lou Malnatis. Not Gino's East, not Due, Not Uno's, Not Giordanos. It is vogue these days to down-play Lou Malnati's simply because they've become successful and have like 15 locations. These opinions are circulated by hipsters who grew up in Indiana. When you are at Lou Malnati's you only order the following pizza: cheese or cheese and sausage (if its just you, then 1/2 cheese, 1/2 cheese and sausage). That's it. Nothing else. (if you don't like Lou Malnati's deep dish pizza, then you don't like deep dish pizza overall, and no other deep dish pizza can save you from disliking it).

I have strong opinions about the third coast.

Went to Reno NV this past week. It was an hour drive from Lake Tahoe. Lake Tahoe is one of those places that is seemingly over-hyped. However, it was amazing and the scenery matches the hype--well worth the hour drive. I can understand why all sorts of wealthy movie stars own homes there. Stunningly beautiful.

You can literally go from this (kiddo skiing for the first time):

To this in a 25 minute drive:

The juxtaposition of warm and sandy beaches with snowy mountains was amazing:

Yes I was lucky enough to do some work there for a week (on expenses thankfully). It is ridiculously expensive there. £10 a pint in a tiny little village boozer about 5 years ago. It is also ridiculously beautiful there. Was in Kristiansaand, then Tromso where I went on a whale safari, then went right up to Banak in the Arctic circle. Had the smallest c0ck in Eurpoe for three days. High standard of living compared with UK.

Anybody been to sousse in Tunisia?

Looking on booking a week there for some layer September sun.

Mate said avoid it but it’s looks nice from what I can see and the reviews are good.
