Travel thread 3.0

Haven’t mentioned much of my holiday the past week because physically it pretty much ended for me on Monday night, even though I’m here till Saturday, because I practically destroyed my right knee in a fall off the small staircase up to the front entrance of the villa I’m at due to it being dimly lit.

Spent 2/3 hours in hospital getting X-rays and having a temporary cast put in place and am facing having to have surgery on it once I’m back in the country

Very sorry to hear that. Hope your recovery is a quick one

A close-up of a locust. During bad times, these things swarm by the billions and devastate crops:

So following up on this, I got the temp cast removed last Tuesday at the Royal to their bemusement cos of how badly done it was, got referred to the fracture clinic at Aintree and had another collapse in the knee on Saturday trying to get upstairs for a few days

Went to the referral at Aintree this morning, was there 5 hours to have an inspection of the knee by a specialist, an ultrasound, blood pressure checks, and ECG on my heart and blood work. End result is I’ve ruptured the tendon connecting my knee cap and shin (which is why I’ve been unable to lift my leg without assistance) and have been scheduled for surgery next Wednesday morning with an up to 6 month timeframe for my full recovery

Worked with a lad who sliced tendons in his hand on an holiday to Turkey. Ambulance picked him up and took him to a private hospital that wasn’t covered by his insurance and they just stitched him up and sent him away. By the time he got to a hospital back home his hand was twice the size and leaking pus. To top it off he got notified of a 2 grand bill from the hospital.
There are agencies that specialise in medical negligence claims from abroad if you want to go that route

I luckily had travel insurance and was in a public hospital over In Lanzarote so my E111 ensured I didn’t get stung for costs, they weren’t the best though the way they botched the temp cast and nearly sent me away into the back of a cab without any form of crutch until both my brothers in law forced them to get some

Krakow for a stag on Friday. Anyone been,?
Had a couple of mates on a stag do there who got taken to a bar by a couple of local ladies and had to pay a bar bill of a few hundred quid to leave. Said they were fooled into it as the girls weren’t outstanding looking. Just fairly normal.
So beware if accosted by average looking ladies.
