Travel thread 3.0

They used to have a massive weapons surplus, not sure if it’s still the case but 20 odd years ago you could pay 200 USD to go into the countryside and shoot a RPG. There was stories about people paying to shoot chickens and cows with AK47s.

Was like the Wild West.
I first went in 2006 and instead of lullabies they used gun fire as the sound to sleep to. There were no cars and the roads were little more than dirt tracks. The development was astonishing considering.

@Noisy noise annoys I'd recommend doing the typical touristy things. The Angkor Wat complex is one of my favourite places in the world. I feel at complete peace there and have been 6 times to date. The killing fields/S21 in PP are a horrific day out but a must do.

As said on here, it's very safe on the whole and the people are friendly.

I heard about this. Friend of a friend told me people were paying to shoot cows with a bazooka. Can't remember how much he said. I thought it was 10 USD but that seems quite cheap

Yes, we are going to Angkor Wat and a few other temple complexes. Not sure about the killing fields. Always been told it is a must but feels a bit much .

The tuk tuk rides are a lovely way to travel.

We got a guide for Angkor Wat. She was brilliant. You can have a ride on an Elephant as well but I didn't fancy it. Also watch out for the wild monkeys.

I found the killing fields hard but very informative. I'm glad I visited them though as I don't see myself visiting Cambodia again in my life time.

Thanks
My wife’s suitcase size probably excludes tuk-tuk! How many shoes does one need? She’s also bought full size bottles of all toiletries! I’ve explained that they sell shampoo in Cambodia.
We will go to the killing fields museum etc, I just have a weird macabre voyeuristic feeling about it.

It turns out it’s rainy season and the euros so will need to shelter, probably in bars!

Fly to Siem Reap for 5 days, drive (akin Miss Daisy/Greenbook) to Phnom penh for a few days then down to Koh Rong (what could possibly) for 8 days to meet son and his chis. They have been travelling around Asia for 5 months but their 'advice' is literally happy pizza and Karaoke!

I have been warned about pick-pockets in PP but apparently all pretty safe otherwise. Would you agree?
Pity you’re going with the wife as I had a great time in Cambodia when I was single.
