Appreciate the sentiment but I have to wonder whether John Moores felt himself in any way whatever subject to popular feeling.
When discussing the morality of ownership of football clubs Mr. Moores provides another interesting story.
He was essentially a bookmaker who devised a clever way of providing people with the opportunity to gamble on the results of football matches , the Football Pools.
The football authorities were horrified that another of the scourges of society was becoming intimately associated with the game of football. They were also uncomfortable with possibility of corruption None more so than Everton under our redoubtable chairman and Evertonian Wilf Cuff.
Cuff led the way in attempting to undermine the ‘pools’ eventually by the league refusing to publish the weekends fixture list until the last minute.
Obviously such measure failed and the ‘pools’ went on to be extremely successful and Mr. Moores became very wealthy.
When he invested in our football club engendering our most successful period, he must have felt a sense of triumph essentially occupying his arch enemies former seat, as well as being able to ‘put something back’into the sport that made him.
It is worth noting ,however, that ownership of Everton also helped protect his primary revenue stream.

Interesting in the earlier post about the plan to build a pub inside the ground when we were still at Anfield. Looks like we'll be getting one inside the BMD walls next time we move. Bit ironic but very welcome as far as I'm concerned.

Next door to a UNESCO heritage site. Every photo of Liverpool from the waterfront will feature the new stadium - a city that is on the map for its cultural and sporting history, and needs to keep apace of what is happening just up the road in Manchester, let alone the Londons or Parises of the world. The waterfront development will be worth 100s of millions if not billions over the long term. Pension funds will be tied into it, local and regional employment, infrastructure development, etc...

Is it a key property development in England? 100% yes. Probably one of the key ones in the world when it is happening.

Anyone who thinks it isn't, is just considering 4 walls, a few seats and a green patch in the centre of it and not the overall picture.
BMD is a good walk from the Pier Head. It will be in as many photo's of the tourist arrival in Liverpool as the Container Terminal will be. How people got into this strange mindset is beyond me.

Yeah it is exciting and a great step forward if it happens, but stay rational.

1 degree of longitude at a particular latitude describes a distance (nautical miles) different to 1 degree longitude at a different latitude.
Apprised of this, I am confident that you can envision sailing situations where knowing different circumferences of a globe might come in handy.
Or you could just put it into the gps and press Go.

Just a “for what it’s worth”. Heard that fat melt Alan Brazil say on Talksport this morning when Ancelotti was being mentioned and potential transfer funds “don’t forget the influence Mr Usmanov has”...
I mean if even that irritating twonk can see he’s involved then surely there’s something in it

Yeah, All these pictures of the water front are taken from the other shore or a helicopter

Sorry to disagree, but Brazil is infamous for chatting utter drivel on the show. Just because he believes Usmanov is involved (I really hope he is btw) doesn’t necessarily mean that he is.

That’s fair enough and wouldn’t disagree with the drivel sentiment. Still think it’s interesting to hear it said so casually on national radio though

You underestimate its appeal. It will be the catalyst to the whole waterfront development. It's not the King's Dock location, but I am sure that everyone involved in the promotion of the new development and Liverpool tourism and hopefully Everton itself will be pushing the image of the new stadium. It's a game changer on its own.

It is all in the dots
Just a matter of which way you join them up
Everton football club is a means to an end and an ego trip as well
The fact that they get a chance to go one up on Kronke is a bonus.
Why did Usmanov meet Ancelotti when Arsenal were linked
@roydo .

I remember when I would play blackjack at casino's in my younger years, you would often see groups of eastern European men come in, blow 500 quid in a short space of time, go and get some more, lose again. Get some more, win a load and cash the chips.

I'd always wonder where people get so much money from. Nobody at the casino really asks. They are turning money over.

If you have income streams that you want to obfuscate (for a variety of reasons) then a football club is an excellent way to do it.

Usmanov's wealth I've seen as upwards of 18 billion, with significant access to liquidity. If he's involved we have to assume Skotch will be involved too (circa 6-8 billion). The 3 of them have official wealth of upwards of 25 billion officially. Goodness knows how much unnofficially.

I saw earlier on this thread, that Gazprom is heavily owned by the Russian state, but Usmanov owns shares and influence.

I am not stating this is my belief, but posing a question, but could it be possible that the Russian state is looking to acquire Cultural institutions in the west and potentially key property developments in England? To build a broader portfolio? To be able to exert influence etc?

If that were the aim, guys like Usmanov who are well ingratiated with a variety of individuals would be a pretty good way of doing it. Moshiri is particularly adept at the connections he has.

If Usmanov has an involvement in Everton, I would suggest that figures that go much beyond Usmanov may also be involved.

It could all be untrue of course. However if you look at our balance sheet, any orthodox reading would be we are in rather a lot of trouble, posting record losses. Hardly symptomatic of a club who can go and fork out a huge sum of money for a top manager and give him a bumper transfer kitty. So it suggests that those running the club are viewing it in a different dimension to this.

It's hard to believe a guy with a couple of billion to his name is happy to gamble all of his holdings on Everton in the manner the has.

Or maybe its just a hobby for him, like Arsenal was and now he just dislikes The Kroenkes.
I've blown a fair old % wedge over the years on various obsessions/ hobbies...he just has bigger pockets
