VAR

Not var but reffing in general, one of the most infuriating but ignored double standards is the yellow cards.

The huge difference in the bar for a RS or City player to get a card ('good sensible refereeing, not every foul has to be a card') to one of the other 14 ('he gave the referee no choice in the modern game') not only affects in game in terms of changing the way a player is willing to commit to a challenge if on a yellow, but alos with suspensions at this time of year for 5 yellows.

No way Emerson or Allison get booked ahead of the pen like pickford last night.

When sliding in for a tackle one hand raised seems to be the case more often than not.. it's a natural thing to do when your body is in that position

It's just not a penalty letter of the law or not. He's thrown his body, his arm isnot particularly outstretched, the reaction time is virtually zero, and he is not attempting to use his arm.

How can there not be mitigation on an incident like that.

And the ref took like 5 seconds to give it. Only after he was surrounded by half the City team. I thought that wasn't allowed anymore !!
Could argue it’s hit part of his shoulder area too which is also allowed.

commentators dont help with their biased/self justifications of
'there was contact so he was entitled to go down' vs 'there wasn't enough contact for me on that one'
It perpetuates the different standards depending on club badge.

I think it was the lineman in his ear that made him give it.

It probably wasn't a clear error so shouldn't have been overturned.

Tbh I've given up on handballs. Nobody has the slightest idea if it should be or not. The fact that they run around with their arms in unnatural positions to avoid their arms being in 'unnatural positions' shows it's been stupid for 2-3 years.

Personally I would 100% scrap var. The technology is not good enough. The car guys aren't good enough and the refs on the pitch don't take responsibility.

Even more importantly you can't celebrate a goal properly.

Football is a shell of what it was a decade ago. Barely entertainment compared to rugby that looks and feels like a sport run and played by adults.
Clear error? Since when has it been clear errors only? A fag-paper's thickness offside? A great tackle becoming a foul and a straight red? Even if we occasionally benefit from it, VAR has become a referee's boys club that is slowly sucking the atmosphere and the life out of the game.

It’s a penalty under the current rules. We can argue all day long about whether we would’ve got it or other decision in the past. But under the current rules - which badly need changing as they’re a farce - it’s a penalty.

If the rule is, if it hits the hand at all, regardless of the situation and the position of the arm, then yes it is a penalty.

It would be good if they can explain why other more obvious ball hitting hands, have not been given and it will be interesting to see future decisions.

I am not sure on the exact wording of the law, but I thought position of the arm comes into play, i.e. unnatural position, his arm is more or less in front of his body.

I suppose that is the issue, they should make a rule for it, because there doesn't seem to be one and they are making it up as they go along.

Can anyone tell me the last time Everton have played against a team who had a man sent off? So Everton with 11 men, other team with 10
Lucas Moura for Spurs in our 1-1 at Goodison in April - that Game where Keane scored that wonder goal. With the one mentioned above been the next one to have came at Goodison - Gibbs for West Brom sep 2020
In an away game its Wes Morgan for Leicester in October 2018 when we won 2-1

We have had 12 Red cards since Sep 2020

This was my point last night. As soon as it hit him it's a penalty. Lino gave it straight away.

It's so annoying your instincts like all post above are to lead with your arm from a yard away from a hard shot. The thing that narks me the most is inconsistent from VAR and the on pitch officials. The club(s) can't complain as they were informed at the start of the season. What the can complain about is consistency.
