Vegans

Vegan for 4 years, loved my meat for years before, so could only have switched once the meat alternatives were actually edible. Cheese has improved, milks improved, only thing I don't know is eggs and fish as I didn't really eat eggs nor fish.

Didn't go completely cold turkey (pun intended) straight away, took out one thing from my diet every 6-9 months or so otherwise I'd have gone insane.

The food is fine, plus our dogs still need meat so we're not THOSE people. Also anything that isn't a straight up cut of meat like a sausage roll, pasty or burger barely tastes of meat anyway so an alternative is barely a drastic change.

That's all I'll say otherwise I'll be a preachy vegan so and so and I can't be arsed with that

Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals.

I demand to see some of the trabs our vegan cohort are wearing or if they a merely following a vegan diet and are in actual fact part timers and bang wagon jumpers who can’t fully commit to thier professed lifestyle choice.

I know a lot of full on ethical vegans that won't wear clothing/shoes made from animals. It's not that hard to do if you're happy/able to pay the extra cost, pretty sure some major sneaker brands have vegan options. Suppose it's like how people wouldn't eat South African oranges during apartheid etc. I also know some vegetarians who correctly point out that wearing leather/glue made from animals is purely a by-product of the meat industry. If the cows were grown purely for making jackets (and the meat was discarded) the clothing would cost thousands.

Blows my mind that so many people have issues with what other people choose to put in their mouths. I've had a number of people have a pop at me over the years when they find out that I don't eat meat. My response is always, 'you do you and I'll do me'.

I respect vegans and vegetarians (my wife is one), but don't agree with the lengths they go to in self-denial. We are part of nature tooth and claw. We are animals, not above them. I will eat meat and would accept, in turn, that nature is quite happy to watch me should I give it a chance.

I would not invite a vegan to a meal and accommodate their desires by cooking a separate meal for them, to that which others are happy to eat. I think Buddhism is a better model. Buddhists (monks) are vegetarian, yet they will eat anything that is put in their bowl, a show of gratitude being more important than their personal values.

Do vegans sit well consuming fruits fertilised by insects, or is that a level yet to come? I wonder if they would poison/shoot rats that are eating their winter stores.
