Vegetarians !

Me and wife are veggie, not vegan. Couldn’t live without dairy or eggs. I’ve been a convert since 2018 just because we were sick of cooking 2 meals all the time. Wife has never eaten meat, even as a child. It wasn’t about the welfare of animals, she didn’t like the taste and texture of meat. The consciousness around meat eating came later. Nowadays it’s so easy being a vegetation because of the Vegan spike. You’ll find all sorts to eat now and to be honest a lot of it is getting better all the time.

Both of our kids eat meat, that’s their choice as it is for everyone else. I’ve never been a fan of the OTT vegans who want to force it on you.
You can't educate though shame, the best thing you can do is be positive about you own choices and non-judgemental about theirs

I haven’t eaten meat in 35 years, can honestly say I’ve never missed it. My missus is a ‘proper’ veggie in that she eats mainly vegetables and tofu whereas I have lots of veggie sausages/burgers etc.

The only problem I ever had was dining out with friends. Used to be very tricky getting veggie food in Australia unless we went to an Indian/Thai place, however these days most places have an extensive plant based menu.

Give it a go and see how you feel!
saag dahl and a veg madras with garlic rice. rockin!

I'm not, but I should be for a variety of animal ethics/environmental reasons (I don't personally buy into the meat=bad health rationale, as this has more to do with processed meat, rather than meat per se). My partner has been vegetarian since childhood, so about 80% of my meals are vegetarian. We don't eat meat for breakfast, just oatmeal/cereal. Lunches are usually on our own, so I might do a sandwich w/ or w/out meat. Dinners are vegetarian; we do tons of pastas, pizzas, nachos, veggie/rice dishes, beans/tortillas. We all like some of the meat substitute products such as veggie-chicken nuggets, veggie sausage/bacon. We use a lot of tofu/tempeh as well. We will eat fish, so there's that.

It's very easy to do these days. That said, I could not/will not ever give up cheese/dairy...just a hard "nope/never" for me personally.

I'd rather be dead, my son went Vegan last year to please his girlfriend, what a miserable life they live. Every funeral wake, wedding or family christening we all attend they sit there with a bag of crisps as nothing off the buffet they can't eat.

lollollollol

Nice to see so many of us on here! I've been vegetarian for 10 years next month. Would prefer to go vegan, really, but the girlfriend already put up a bit of a fuss with me going this far, so this was the compromise, I guess. Granted, she got a lot more on board over time when she realized how good the food could still be, as that was really her primary worry - she didn't want to be eating bland, cardboardy stuff, and since I'm the primary cook in the house, she mostly eats what I eat. She eventually even quit asking me to cook meat for her separately and now eats almost entirely vegetarian at home, though she still eats meat when we go out or order takeout.

We always get a kick out of going to a restaurant where the waiter who takes our order isn't the one who brings out the food, because seemingly 9 times out of 10, they put her meat dish in front of me.

A few of my family are veggies, so there is always some veggy stuff on the go at Parties for them.

But I agree, a life without meat would be horrid.

But no issue with people who dont like, I find as I get older, I care less about the choices others make with their lives.

The younger me would have called them a tree shagger and laughed tho.

Hahaha…having just posted that above, the kiddo and partner are at a conference out of town thru Sunday.

I just made a homemade pizza with pulled pork (from a local bbq place) with onion and banana peppers and bbq sauce base (“Bone suckin’ sauce, based out of Raleigh NC—highly recommend).

I’m weak!

It would be on my list of "must divorce" issues if any husband had turned, catching him sh***ing the neighbour would be less divorcable than him turning Vegan.

I've been a vegetarian for quite a long time now (I think 9, maybe 10 years) and have never looked back. I don't eat particularly healthy tbh but it's very easy regardless of what way you want to do it. There's practically direct substitutes for every type of meat if you still like the texture of certain proteins, so in many cases you just swap something in, and restaurants have great veggie options nowadays.

I think it's a great choice, but only do it if it's sustainable and it feels right. For me, it was like a switch went off in my head and I just couldn't eat meat anymore. For some people it's an urge they actively have to suppress. So if you find yourself thinking about eating meat a lot then just give in, and aim for something more achievable like eating less meat, or certain kinds of meat (a lot of people just stick to fish). Best of luck with it anyway @Brendan Janus

What got you there? to the switch? There's an old saying, "if slaughter houses had glass walls, everyone would be a vegetarian", I'm not mad keen on cruelty (besides self inflicted Everton) and MRM (mechanically recovered meat) is an abomination. Did veggie help with weight or blood pressure or something similar?
