Which is my entire point, i'm not saying we're letting go players the caliber of Rooney all the time.

If we have 2 young players coming through who are more or less as good as each other but we have to keep one and let one go, 1 gets released and signs for Crewe, the other follows the same path as Anichebe.

Which one will be more likely to become a useful squad member for Everton in the future?

The 1 with talent?

He had an excellent game yesterday.

His hold up play gave us a good platform to work from, he did the required running, harried their defenders and of course nicked his goal.

Deserved his standing ovation (again).

Watching all his interviews on the main Everton site.

He comes across as a pretty good lad and seems to be enjoying himself.

If we could drop Fellaini back to CM and have Vic with Mirallas up front would be tasty

"more or less as good as each other" but we can only keep one on. Who'll become the better player, the one who develops at everton or the one who develops at a league one side?
Keep in mind one gets to work with Moyes and one doesn't.

I don't believe it's as straight as that mate. If Duffy had gone to a Champ side and played every week for the last two season I reckon he'd be a better player than he is now.

Obviously the lower they drop the less likely that becomes, but, if they drop so low there's usually a reason for it. Most clubs have massive scouting networks and lower league clubs keep a close eye on PL clubs releasing players.

Yeah its not that straight forward and the only scenario. Just as saying any player let go to a lower league side is crap isn't.
Point being its just as much about being given the chance to show your talent in a suitable envoironment as it is having the talent in the first place.

Hope Victor scores the winner in the derby, he is starting to show what he can do and should be our number 9.

The lad has huge potential which he is currently fulfilling, he could score 15+ goals a season.

Don't know about 15+, if he carries on like this season he has 10+ in him which, with the way he bullies defenders allowing others into the spaces around him, I'd be pretty happy with that. Good to see him sming and enjoying his footy finally

I agree.

For me the blueprint to follow is Ferguson more so than Wenger. Can't really say we follow either.

As I've said before, I'm not really bothered how other clubs do it, just how it affects us.
When you're a club so skint you don't buy a player for 2 and a half years you really need to be giving every chance you can to the homegrown players in your club. And when you've got one of the smallest squads in the league you really need to make the best use of your younger fringe players for the long term benefit.

Scored 8 so far this season when he hasn't been starting for periods of time and has been a bit hit and miss, I think 15 would be achievable if he played 40 odd games.

Has had a stop start season with injuries too.

Thing I'm liking is the way he's playing means you can have him up on his own but it'd suit a partner too.

I think Moyes may have had a similar situation (if not as quite a difficult decision to make) over Anichebe and Vaughan. They were of similar age and experience, both had suffered from injuries that had halted their progress. It seems if he did make that decision then it looks like he's made the right one.
