What a strange world this "football" has led us to. Ignoring the fact that even LOW weekly wages like this are more than some FAMILIES earn all year. When will we as fans not tolerate this anymore?
Hypothetical example from my life:
So I have a normal office job. This seems to me to be the equivalent of me being out almost the entire previous year on long-term disability/worker's compensation from a work-place injury. It was unfortunate, neither my employer nor I wanted that, but hey, it happens. I collected my salary despite not even being able to help my employer. Seeing as I've hardly done my job in a year, of course I'm rusty, but I expect I'll be back in the swing of things shortly. Now that I am coming back to work, I am offered a 33%+ raise and an extension at this new rate. That seems like a huge gesture of good faith from the employer (that I am valued and they expect I will reach my former form - or better). It is hard for me to imagine a way that I turn that down.
Keep in mind that we are in a very bad economy, one in which over here many people haven't gotten ANY raises in 3 years now (and those that do tend to be more like 2-3%).
That is why I LOVED what Oguchi Onyewu did with AC Milan - offering to play for a year for free after his injury. That showed class and it was obvious that he considered it an honor to wear the shirt and play for the team. Talk about a rare breed in today's football.
I like Victor. I've want him to succeed. I'd like him to stay a blue. If our front office rates him at 20-30k/wk, then fine, I'll go along with it. I am just getting really fed up with this stuff.
